I dropped my iphone 3G on the floor by accident and the screen shows nothing except a white light. the phone seems to be working fine, i could turn it off by guessing the slider and stuff.... but cannot see anything on my display what can i do????? please help.
Check for broken LCD inside your iPhone. Other thing it might be loose connection between LCD and its socket. Here is disassembly guide for your iPhone

You have broken the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) the touch screen digitizer and front glass is a seperate unit so that is why it still works. The LCD is the visual part and can be purchased online and fitted yourself if you feel up to it and is not that expensive, Videos of how to do it also on youtube. Or you can take it to a mobile repair centre to get them to do it for you.

You will need to take this phone to Apple. Hopefully you have a warranty. I had the same problem once on my Iphone...It cost me 199 to replace my phone.. i had no insurance. You screen is damaged.Sorry.
