SOURCE: Locked cursor on Toshiba Satellite using Windows Vista

you need to press f8 on boot when it is loading, to enter safe mode (before the Windows flash screen)

then when in "Safe mode" you can  should be able to gain access,

reboot from this mode and see if it loads normally,  if not then you have a configuration issue.

go back into safe mode, (login) and go to start>Run,  run a program called MSconfig,  this will allow you to look at your startup items,  and allow you to disable/enable them individually,

from this point you can diagnose which programs are causing your issues.

I hope this helps

Hi, I have Toshiba laptop A215-s5818 series. My problem is that my FN key does not work especially for FN+F5. Also I must add this subject that I change my Vista windows to XP.

SOURCE: Fn+F8 hotkey dose not work but the remain FX go fine

Another Alternative is to check your BIOS to see whether or not your Wireless is turned on, if it is not pressent in your BIOS then update your BIOS Driver on the Internet to ver 1.4, Double check your version Compatabillity. Next if the adapter driver is installed, follow the following intructions: start -> settings -> control panel -> system -> hardware -> device manager -> now look for the wireless adapter, see if it is operational or marked with an error -> if it is marked check that it is configured for automatic, and also the resources. Set the configuration manually if so. restart the system.

1) Resource conflict = change resource settings
2) No adapter = check if the adapter is enabled (Y) then see if there is any conflicts (y) correct the settings e.g. resources and see if windows shows that the device is enabled (N) try to enable this device. If (N) then goto BIOS settings to correct it.

Hope this helps

SOURCE: toshiba satellite fn key display problem

Just download this :) It will fix your problem. If it doesn't work, just search for Toshiba Value Added Package Vista/XP (that depends on what Operative System you've got) and download for your Operative System.

Function key doesn't work

Hello, if the key is broken (Won't work at all) there is no way to fix it unless you replace the keyboard. You can however look for the: ATK / KB Filter Utility for Asus machines and that will give you access to some of the hotkey functions without having to use the fn key itself. You can find that here: http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=ATK_package&os=30

Unfortunately the fn key is not part of standard bios's as far as I know for most machines so you can't remap it to another key. You might be able to switch the [fn] function around though so you don't have to press the [fn] key to use the hotkeys.

It will look something like this: http://cdn4.thetechjournal.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/action-keys-bios-as7d889we79we7r9ew5rty321u32.jpg

To get there hold [F2] whilst powering on the machine and you should see something similar to that pic. Once done save and exit.

Please bare in mind that if you do this you will only be able to us the hotkeys in windows unless it's a keyboard specific command, e.g [Ctrl] + [Shift] + [F4].

Hope that helps

Sony vgn nr120e screen broke and i want to use external but need to know when to hit the hotkeys

Connecting an External Monitor or Data Projector
You can switch to an external monitor or data projector by two methods. 1. Connect the external monitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and the laptop. The video information will automatically switch to the external monitor. 2. If you power up the laptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor by pressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make and model laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCD screen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fn key plus one of the function key a few times. Here is a list of key combinations for some of the laptops :- IBM ThinkPad = Fn + F7 HP and Compaq = Fn + F4 Toshiba = Fn + F5 Dell = Fn + F8

When i turn on my gateway nv52 the screen is black and white with horizontal lines. i can plug my laptop into an external monitor and it is fine so it has to be something with my video cable or monitor. ...

First things first simpers, your netbook might have a "hotkey" combination that toggles between external monitor and your screen .On my netbook iits Fn/F5 but yours might be different. Goto your manufactures site to find out the exact "hotkey" function.

My daughter was trying to change her background pic and the color and look of the taskbar. Now the screen loads black and you can see nothing that you click on.

its a long shot but try Fn/F4
Fn is a hotkey function key that in combination with some other keys provides more options on the keyboard Fn/F4 puts the screen in sleep mode.

How do I turn the keyboard mouse off. I only wish to use a wireless mouse. Is there a hotkey

Hello,

The hotkey depends on the kind of computer that you are using. It's just a two combination key. It should be FN + _____. Try FN + F7 or FN + F9.. It could have been very helpful if you have provided fixya with the model of your laptop so that I can give the exact key. Anyway, try to look at the F1....F12 keys. It should be there. You can see FN key in between CTRL and the window sign. While function keys are on the upper most part of your laptop.

I hope this helps.

3) Fn + F3 = Launches Acer ePower Management in Acer Empowering Technology.

5) Fn + F5 = Toggle the laptop from it's monitor to an external monitor, or use both.

6) Fn + F6 = Screen Blank > Turns the Display Backlight off to save power. Press any key to return.

7) Fn + F7 = Touchpad toggle > Turns the internal Touchpad on and off.

8) Fn + F8 = Speaker toggle> Turns the speakers on and off

9) Fn + Right Hand Triangle > Brightens the LCD screen

10) Fn + Left Hand Triangle > Decreases the LCD screen brightness

Acer Aspire 5515 Service Manual ( Free)

http://www.tim.id.au/blog/tims-laptop-service-manuals/#toc-acer

Go down to the second Aspire heading.
The one that starts with Aspire 1200.
Drop down to line 6, then go across to the right, and click on 5515.

This is a PDF file. The computer you are on now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.
I would suggest upgrading to Adobe Reader 9 (9.3.4.) though, if this isn't the version on the computer.

After you click you may not see anything happening for up to 30 seconds.
The file is downloading in the background.
Usually it takes a few seconds to see the first page, and additional time to fully download.
Suggest you let the file fully download before looking through it.

This is a SERVICE MANUAL, not a User Manual. Much more detailed, including disassembly procedures.

Haven't come across this before. Best I can suggest?
