Local caches don't download from geocaching.com. Many distant caches are on the machine right out of the box. Why?
On 10 October 2010 geocachers around the world held events
and went caching to commemorate 10 years of geocaching. In the process
they set a record for the most geocachers to find a cache in a day, with 78,313
accounts logging a cache
Muggled is actually being caught by a non-geocacher while
retrieving/replacing a cache; also, a muggled cache means that it has been
removed or vandalized by a non-geocacher, usually out of misunderstanding or
lack of knowledge.
The geocache must include
a log book with pen or pencil and trade items. The finding geocachers
record their exploits in the logbook and online. Geocachers are free to take
objects (except the logbook, pencil, or stamp) from the cache in exchange for
leaving something of similar or higher value.
Common cache contents are unusual coins or currency, small toys, ornamental buttons, CDs, or books. Also common are objects that are moved from cache to cache called "hitchhikers", such as Travel Bugs or Geocoins, whose travels may be logged and followed online.
