I have a Whirlpool gold SxS refrigerator model GD5RHAXNQ00 that is not making ice. The water in the front door works fine but there is no water making it into the ice maker. What kind of steps could I take to see what isn't working? The model I listed in the submittion form was the closest model I could find in your list. Hopefully you can still help. Thanks

The first symptom of dirty condenser coils is that the ice maker stops getting to zero degrees. (That's what it requires to kick the ice out.) The first thing to check is dirt and dust bunnies on the hot coils.
Put a stick type thermometer in a stick of butter or a pint of ice cream and wait a day to see if the freezer is set getting to zero F.

Start by cleaning the condenser with a brush and a shop vac. Then get some nickleguard ice machine cleaner and wash the units plate's down going by package directions, then retry before calling a tech. It may start working but if it does not then it may save you some money by having the unit clean before the tech gets there. Ice machines are not a DIY repair. Sowwy

You definitely have something wrong with the ice maker if the water has turned to ice Schmerold. And the IM is not harvesting. The way it works is the IM needs 28 degrees F to harvest. If the coils below in the condenser are dirty the IM won't try to harvest. The Ice Mold thermostat is mounted on the firewall of the Ice mold in its own little cubby whole. To access it you will need to remove the head. Then remove the shell separating the Ice mold from the heads housing. There you will find the ice mold thermostat. It's only function is to get it on. If the temperature is right in the freezer. To test this precious thermostat one needs only to stick it into a freezer and let it hang out for an hour or so. Then grab it and check it for continuity. If it is open it has failed and belongs in the file 13. It is easily replaced and inexpensive.
On your model, ice maker operation is controlled by an optical sensor mounted on both sides of the freezer liner. The usual failure of this model is a bad emitter board, located in one of these recesses. You may view the service instructions for checking this sensor.

Get me the model number. Put tap water in ice maker tray and make sure arm is down. Let it freeze. Wait and see if the ice will drop, this should allow water to come into the ice maker for another run. Let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Couple of reasons
a) Excess humidity in the refrigerator due uncovered food items.
B) freezer door not closing fully( look for any visible damage or hardness of the seal. The seal is made of multiple layers so even a few cracked edges will cause leakage.
c) the returning air if not circulated properly by blower which also gas a heating coil for humidification could have failed causing formation of ice.................sodeep
