SOURCE: stops and starts

Hi there,
Most home standby generators are setup to run once a week so as to keep the engine lubed up and the generator windings dry. So if yours is comming on once a week at about the same time and running for something like 15 minutes, that's what is going on.
On the other hand, if your generator is starting and the switch is transferring somewhat randomly, you could have a problem with the neutral connection in your system, the power could really be going out and coming back on, and/or the control board in your generator could be broken.

Regards,
Carl

I have a toy hauler with a generac generator propane that wont start getting gas and spark but wont start model 04164-0

Check the comprssion, if you are sure you have a spark and gas. Is the fuel been delivered to the cylinders? Check the fuel solenoid for power, if power is present the demand gas regulator maybe gummed up. LP companies put a waxy lubricant in the gas and over time this can build up and harden in regulators. Also during crank observe the throttle is it going open as it should? if not suspect a control issue

Over crank

Over crank is just that, cranking and cranking for a timed period without a run signal. Make sure the fuel solenoid is opening and you have the correct gas pressure. Too much pressure can stop it opening. Then check you have a spark at the plugs, this will eliminate ignition, and you can re-focus on the fuel system. You didn't say it was LP or Nat gas

My generac gp7000 has low voltage

Low voltage? how low? Assuming engine speed is correct, first check the capacitor in the end of the alternator housing. Common problem

Engine will turn over/crank but will not run

All internal combustion engines have the same requirements. They must have the correct air fuel mixture and source of ignition in order to run. Although I am unfamiliar with the system you have, the fact thst it will start without the air filter but won't with the air filter indicates that you either have a dirty air filter (you said yours was clean) or you have too much fuel entering the combustion chamber. Beyond that I would only be guessing the reason (air fuel mixture regulator, worn jet, wrong size jet, something else bocking air flow etc.)

Generac home generator does not start. It starts alittle bit but then dies. Maybe runs for 4-6 seconds

is this unit diesel or gas? If its gas driven, the carburetor needs to be removed and cleaned out. Also make sure your gas is fresh. If not drain fuel tank, remove carb, clean out, re-assemble & test. Check fuel filter, oil level.

My standby generator is just cranking but wont turn all the way

If it was installed only five months ago, it should still be under warranty. Call Home Depot and have them send out a repair person.

Start runs shutsdown

Typically caused by the fuel line (LP or Natural Gas) having a lot of air in it. Was your generator just installed, or was there any work done to the gas line of the building / generator? Consult local gas contractor / propane dealer / gas company for assistance in purging the fuel line.

A low battery can also cause this as well as the generator is not able to come up to starting speed quick enough. Try placing a stand alone battery charger on the generator and charge the battery. Also check the air filter as well.

OverCrank condition occurs when generator tries to start itself, or be manually started, and the starter spends too much time turning.

This can also indicate failure of the control board. This will need the expertise of generac technician. Call 1-888-GENERAC (1-888-436-3722)
