Mitutoyo is a brand that produces precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and height gauges. An error code E940 on a Mitutoyo instrument typically indicates a problem with the instrument's communication interface. This can be caused by a variety of issues, such as a problem with the instrument's cable or software, or a problem with the computer or device to which the instrument is connected.
To troubleshoot the issue, you should first check the connections between the instrument and the computer or device to ensure that they are properly connected and secure. If the connections appear to be fine, you may need to update the software on the instrument and computer or device to resolve the issue.

This may be a little late but the answer is "there is no battery". The whole face except for the display is a solar cell. Use it in plenty of light and it will stay on. If you block the light while using it and the internal storage cap has a small charge on it the display will turn off.

There should be a screw in the top of the slide which controls the tension on the thumb wheel. If this screw is missing, that would be the problem. If the screw is present, tighten it.
There should be a battery cover on the back of the case that will have a small release catch on it that will open the compartment up. Mine has 2 batteries in it. Hope this helps you.
