SOURCE: Refrigerator warm, freezer cold

Totally Unreasonable if you don't mind me saying so. The person who told you that story was thinking of an absorption unit more than likely.

Your proble is related to the defrost system of your refrigerator. There is a timer that automatically starts the defrost. It energizes the heaters that defrost the cooling coil. After the coil reaches a preset temperature a defrost terminator turns the heater off for the remaining time on the timer cycle. You could have a bad timer (stalled) which would not start the defrost. Locate the timer and turn the clutch head screw clockwise very SLOWLY until you hear one audible click. The defrost should take place and will be indicated by water in the drain pan under the refrigerator. If after 25 minutes it does not restart in the cooling mode turn the screw once again to the second click and replace the timer.

If the refrigerator restarts after 18-22 minutes and defrost does not take place your problem is in the heater circuit. Open heater or thermostat (termination switch)

SOURCE: my kenmore bottom freezer refrigerator keeps icing

Sounds like the circulating fan is wearing out, this problem is very hard to diagnose because the fan still spins but not fast enough to circulate the chilled air thru the freezer and refrigerator. The minimum cost for labor and material is around $300.00

Clogged Water Dispensor

The water inlet solenoid is the culprit. It lets water into the icemaker and water for the dispenser. Follow the waterline to the back of the frige and it ends at the water inlet solenoid. Note the 2 solenoids built into 1 part. Replace this part and you are done. Don't forget to unplug frige and turn off the water before you replace this part. EZ FIX...

Frige freezing solid

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

Control board reset?

Amana version of adaptive defrost : Press refrigerator light switch five times in six seconds to initiate defrost cycle. Pressing five more times within six seconds will cancel defrost and go straight into the run mode. Similar operation on both bottom mount and SxS refrigerators. After the defrost terminator/thermostat opens, six minutes of dwell time occurs before the compressor and condenser fan motor will operate. After defrost terminator/thermostat open, 10 minutes of dwell time occurs before the evaporator fan motor will operate.

Fridge not cold, freezer fine...

look at the back inside wall of the freezer. you might need to put your hand on it to feel it. if you see or feel frost the you have a defrost problem. if its not defrosting the frost builds up and blocks air flow from the freezer to the frige so the frige cant cool. it will either be the defrost element, defrost thermostat or the defrost timer causing the problem
