Keypad shorted may need service

Microwave beeps and reads KEYPAD SHORTED --SERVICE MAY BE NEEDED. The only way I have found to stop the beeping is by unplugging it. I have tried holding the Clear/off button; it changes nothing. I would like to know if their is a possible fix (that won't cost as much as a new unit) or if the unit needs replacing? THanks

You'll need to carefully removed the keypad assembly and look for moisture etc.

GE Microwave (Over the Range: Model HVM1540DPBB) was stopping operation. It would beep, and the display would show garbage. I would unplug it, then plug it into the outlet, then it would display "keypad...

make this test and fix it. God bless you

  1. Inspect the power cordUnplug the power cord and check for voltage at the outlet. Also inspect for damage, shorts, or burn marks that can be a possible safety hazard.
  2. Bad door switchIf your microwave does not work at all and you know everything is plugged in properly and the outlet is functioning, then also check the door hooks and the door release button. Using a volt-ohm meter on RX1, check your terminals. When your microwave door is closed you should have a reading of zero. Once the door is open the reading should change to infinity. If these readings do not match up, replacement of the door switch is necessary.
  3. Blown fusesTo determine if your fuse has blown out, which may attribute to your microwave not running, you need to pull the fuse out using a pair of fuse pullers. Lay it down and using a volt-ohm meter on RX1, check both ends of the fuse in question. If you do not get a reading of zero, then you will need to replace the fuse.
  4. Bad fan motorLocate the fan and remove the leads. Again using the volt-ohm meter on RX1, check the terminals. If an infinity reading is displayed, it means that the fan has gone bad and requires replacement.

GE microwave that will not stop beeping

he most likely cause of this problem is a keypad on the control.

You can try the stop/clear keypad to silence the beeping.

You can put the controls into child lock and see if the intermittent beeping stops. The instructions to turn the child lock feature you have it in the owner manual . The child lock disables most keypads.

otherwise replace the control board.

God bless you

Microwave keeps beeping on GE spacesaver JVM1640WB

Does the display say anything?

If it says "F3" then you have a shorted keypad.

Please post a new question with full model number and more detailed symptoms.

Samsung Microwave Oven Model smh918713 beeping

You may need to replace the keypad. I found there was moisture causing the problem when we boiled water on the right side of our stove which is under the keypad. I let the microwave dry out for several days and now only use the left side of stove when we boil water and have not had the problem.

Microwave is beeping, lock comes on, F2, just keeps beeping by itself

F2 on a KitchenAid mike usually means a Keypad short. Beware if it is a KHMS155LSS, it can self start on its own with a KeyPad short. A real stunning defect.

How to stop the beeper and reset the "code' light on panel?

You have a shorted 2 pad on the keypad.

Since it's less than one year old, it should be fully covered under warranty. I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer to get it fixed free.
