Check underneath spout ... if is plastic then is a "less expensive" model and the base and some internal parts may be also made of plastic. Is it a model 7100,7400 or 7600? this appears on stem on opposite side of spout... The base may be "out of round" (or "eccentric") from many yearsand may continue to leak even after replacing bottom o-ring. I have learned that if the faucet is older and plastic, advise the person to invest the money in a new Moen faucet: if you are paying someone to do the work, save time & money by having them make the switch instead of tryting to fix w/ a new o-ring, if you want to try to dis-assemble faucet and replace o-ring:
While you are changing o-ring might as well replace cartridge, get cartridge form same place you get o-ring, cartridges are supposed to be free (depending on hardware store) ...someone there should be able to help w/ dissasembly .. i hope ..
Plug drain(s) add some warm water to sink to be able to wash and rinse parts if needed, shut water off, relieve pressure by turning tap on ... plug drains!!! (tiny screws love drains...)
Most MOEN single handles: just pull top off straight up, most are just press fit on. This exposes screw. Before taking screw out make sure you have a clear area to set parts in order of removal taking care to remember alignment and order. Remove screw ...
Internal parts are usually threaded plastic so go easy on things ... unscrew retainers, remove lever control making note on how it engages the cartridge etc... this helps you figure out re-assembly
pull entire spout housing straight up (might resist a bit if crudded up) hold up to light and see if out of round.. you'll now see the brass interior...pinch out o-ring and replace. Silicone lubricant may help (get from same place as o-ring, cart. they should have little free packs..) slide spout housing back over ... re-assemble all in reverse, do not over-tighten plastic retainers, hand-tight ok .. if still leaks
might want a new one ... hope this helps
Base leak is from bad o ring or loose spout very easy fix you can get a washer kit at lowes all you need is a allen wrench(sometimes comes in kit) a pair of channel lock pliers
