Unplug unit, wait 10 mins then plug back in. If still does not work, check for breaker trip. Be sure outlet still has power.

My JVC mx-g50 component flashes a PROTECT sign everytime I press the power button. Why?

Hi Robert,
Unfortunately, your unit has a built in microprocessor that is very susceptible to electrical interference like power outages and lightning. JVC recommends that you unplug and plug your unit back in like that's going to work. Might be time for a new unit.

No optical output except when using ipod dock on tv

Unfortunately, there is a limitation on the JVC LT47P789 digital optical audio out. This audio output does not get the signal from any HDMI source. This is described on page 49 of the user manual. The manual is available from JVC here: http://resources.jvc.com/Resources/00/01/14/YA653ien.pdf . There is a similar restriction for the analog audio output from the TV with the HDMI inputs.

If you use the component audio/video inputs on the TV from your set-top cable box and DVD player, then the optical audio output will work. Otherwise, you need to find a way to connect the audio directly to the receiver. Some receivers have multiple HDMI input ports. These then forward the video signal on their HDMI output to the TV. Another option is to connect the analog audio outputs from the cable box and DVD player to the receiver. This may require resetting the Audio output from these set-top boxes to keep from sending the audio over the HDMI cable. With the Cinemate, you might need some sort of audio input switch or an HDMI converter and switch that separates the audio from the video signal.

I hope this helps. Please add a comment with more information about your devices for ideas on how to work-around the problem with this JVC TV.

I get flashing green on my screen when the hdmi cable is hooked up. This only happens after a power outage. How do I reset it?

usually you need to plug the HDMI connection back in, and power everything up. Then using the menu, set the HDMI connection, back, to whatever you wish, often it is efficacious, to have the alternate unit already plugged into the set. It may also pay to reset your TV set, back to defaults.

Cant get our HDMI to work on our JVC HD 58S998.

First, contrary to popular opinion, HDMI cables connect to a tv are not the best way to connect the two. The HDMI technology has flaws that often shows up as sound problems.

If your TV has the capability for component connections, use them. It will take 5 cables, 3 for video and 2 for audio. You will get superior sound and video. The 5 cables terminate in RCA type connectors and are much cheaper than an HDMI cable.

I hope this helps and solves your problem. :-)

JVC LCD TV (LT-42X688) input panel not working!

1. This TV has setting for the HDMI input that allows you to select the HDMI Audio or Analog(red/white wire) audio. Make sure this is correct

2. Most cable boxes are DVI not HDMI. If DVI then you actually do need to use those Red/white cables. If HDMI, refer back to #1.

3. The cable box has a setting to select the Audio output, HDMI (digital) or Analog(red/white cables). Just like #1, this has to be set.

4. Contact your cable company to help you set up the box correctly. JVC can probably help you check the TV

I just bought a JVC THD50 surround sound system. I want to hook up the system to my television and cable so when I watch cable I can hear the surround sound. I bought a digital optical audio cable and...

See below for the correct setup to get the best clarity sound possible.

From Set top box:
  1. Audio: optical or digital coax cable output --> jvc system Input
  2. Video: hdmi output--> jvc system input
From JVC System:
  1. Video: HDMI output---> TV HDMI input
TV:
  1. only accepting HDMI input from JVC System.
This will provide you will sound from your jvc system at all times. Your JVC system is made to be used as a hub. So essentially what you are trying to do is connect all components into the JVC system. Then only connect the video portion to your TV. The TV itself should NOT be emitting sound.

Note: You may need to turn off the speakers in the TV setup menu to acheive no sound from the TV. This will make for the ultimate experience.
