Grain mill stops turning

While the grain mill is attached the mixer will stop grinding the wheat. It sounds like a clutch is disengaging or something.

It is more than likely that there is a stripped drive gear inside the mixer, either the attachment hub gear or the pinion gear has stripped and you hear the gears grinding up the nylon parts of the gear. soon it will stop altogether because the wear will be so great that it will no longer engage at all. You need to open the mixer and replace the gears that are worn.

Will it grind any wheat? I had a similar problem with the wheat overwelming the drive system and had to use smaller amounts of wheat to keep the system grinding. Do you have the feeder attached? I couldn't just load it up but had to feed a little at a time. Hope it helps. Favorable comments are apprieciated.

KitchenAid Professional 5 Quart stand mixer grain mill won't grind?

From what I know about these and industrial Hobart mixers is that where drive gears are on a shaft they are held by a shear pin that goes right through the gear and the shaft. They are made to shear if the grinder or planetary head is strained. It shears the pin instead of damaging the motor or shredding gears. When they do shear, there is often enough friction to turn the attachment, but not enough force under load. I see two shear pins in this diagram 19/8 and part 14/8. The diagram also show the orientation of bevel gears.

Seized planetary gear pin?

Page two of the KitchenAid service manual will walk you through how to remove the pin. Here is a link to that service manual:

Front attachment won't turn

It sounds like one of the gears inside the head has failed. You will need to remove the head and take it apart to work out which one. It should be relatively easy to get hold of the part you need once you have identified it. Please post your model number for us to point you to the right parts list.

Pin comes out/mixer attachements grind on bowl.

See what stops it going forward. If it's a rubber pad you can replace or repair it. As far as the pin is concerned. Is the hole worn out or the pin? Measure the pin size and see what diameter it is If you can send me a picture co7196@yahoo .com and we'll come up with a satisfactory resolve. Ned

Mixer stops working

It sounds like the attachments aren't aligning correctly. I had the same problem with a Kitchen Aid. The unit should be replaced as soon as possible so you don't end up paying for repairs.

Are attachments for a KitchenAid K5 compatible with the K55?

That would be incorrect. If the attachment is for a hobart kitchenaid mixer then it will fit all models of kitchenaid mixers including the brand new pro series because the attachment port and drive gear has not been changes since 1925 or 6 when it was first introduce by the Hobart company.

The pasta/meat grinder attachment stops turning

Its a 325 watt mixer. If you grind or mix dough often you may consider getting something stronger or turn it off every ten minutes or so and let it cool down. We burned a 325 and got the 575 watt "600" series and no problems ever since. I know these things are expensive. The 325 is more mixer than grinder. The attachements fit ANY size mixer but some are not recommended for use in all mixers.
If its quiting see my posts on "doesn't run at sitr" and "Removing the motor cover" To get inside and clean those contacts.
