Condenser Coils are Dirty
If the refrigerator is not cold enough the condenser coils may be dirty. The condenser is like a radiator and must stay clean in order to dissipate the heat which was removed from the inside of the refrigerator. As the coils get dirtier the refrigerator becomes less efficient, which makes it work harder to cool down. If the coils are dirty enough, the unit will never be cold enough and will not be able to cool the inside of the refrigerator to the proper temperature.
Evaporator Fan Motor
If the refrigerator is not cold enough, the evaporator fan motor might have failed. Every refrigerator has a set of coils called an evaporator. The refrigerator may have one or more evaporator fan motor(s) depending on the model and evaporator locations. The evaporator fan motor circulates the cold air from the coils thru the compartment. The freezer doesn't freeze that good but the refridgerator does work.

It is possible that the defrost cycle is not working. Look for signs of ice built up in the freezer compartment. The excess ice prohibits the air circulation.

the usual tell is the refrigerator gets colder than usual and the freezer does not get as cold. The situation is that the compressor runs until the freezer temperature is satisfied. If the compressor can not achieve the cold temperature of the freezer it will run continuously.

When the unit runs continuously the bi-pass of air is increased bringing more cold air into the refrigerator portion of the unit.

If my freezon would be low then why is it very cold air when I'm going on the road

because the temp difference between the hi and low side will be greater faster than a normally charged system the reason it cycles off is the keep the evap. from freezing up, but running to low on Freon can cause poor lubrication in the compressor causing damage to the compressor, yes it will blow very cold for a short period of time with a low charge

What you're seeing may be the oil in the system if the refrigerant system has failed leaked out - which I suspect it has.

Refrigerators do not work well in cold areas, as when the fridge's interior is cold and the compressor shuts off, the ambient temperature causes the refrigerant gas to turn to a liquid and return to the compressor. When the temperature inside the fridge rises enough to turn the compressor on - it fails catastrophically as a compressor can only compress a gas, not a liquid.

Freezer turns of in cold weather

Many residential refrigerator / freezers are designed to work at temperature considerably above above freezing. Most modern refrigerator / freezer have a single electric thermostat - located in the fresh food compartment. This lone thermostat will control the compressor to keep the fridge (fresh food) section at the desired temperature (usually between 34 - 38 degrees F). The freezer will get colder regardless of how cold it is already whenever the fridge thermostat turns the compressor on.

Now that you see how the thermostat works, let's look at what happens when the fridge is placed in an unheated space - like a garage. In winter time, the temperature can drop considerably below 38 degrees. If the outdoor temperature remains cold enough, for long enough - it will affect the thermostat in the fridge. The temperature inside the fridge could drop below 38 degrees, preventing the thermostat from telling the compressor to turn on. Meanwhile, the temperature in the freezer compartment slowly rises from the normal -10 to 0 F degrees. It will continue to rise until it is the same temperature as the fresh food compartment or until the thermostat in the fresh food compartment tells the compressor to turn on again. This means the freezer contents will thaw.

If the temperature in the garage is even in the 40 to 50 degree range, the loss of cold in the fridge may not happen often enough to keep the compressor coming on often enough to keep some freezer items frozen solid - such as ice cream. Remember, water freezes at 32 degrees F, other products may require lower temperatures to remain frozen, and could thaw at 28 or other temperature.

Iceream is not freezing

My refrigerator in the garage shuts off when it is very cold outside. What can I do to prevent that?

Refrigerators are designed to work inside, at room temperatures.

The temperature of the freon is getting so low (and the pressures so low) that the freon is not turning into a gas before getting back to the compressor. Therefore you have liquid freon in the compressor (a very bad situation). When the liquid gets sucked into the compressor's compression chamber, you can damage the compressor; even kill it eventually.

I'm not aware of any way to solve your problem except heat your garage or move the refrigerator indoors. I definitely wouldn't run it at cold ambient temperatures!
