Look for obstruction at the drain tray for the freezer. Common to have plastic wrap sucked into that area.Or gunk in the drain line. Blow through line to insure the gunk is not an issue.

SOURCE: Thin layer of ice on the floor of my whirlpool top mounted freeze

You need to defrost the freezer completely, the easiest is to locate the drainpipe on the back of the unit where the condesate drips into a pan. Then force water up the pipe. This should solve the problem.

SOURCE: Ice Maker stopped working -- new fridge 3 months old.

Good day,
Icing could be one problem. The first thing to test is the water supply to the machine. Shut the house off at the meter. Remove the line from the water valve at the machine. Insert the line into a bucket while someone else turns on the water at the meter for a 15 second count. It should come out forcefully, not weak or just dribbling.
If it's bad, then the line and the fittings where it connects to the house supply should be inspected, and cleaned or replaced as needed.
If it is O.K. and the machine is under one year of age, it is under warranty and you should call your selling dealer for a free service call.

Testimonial: "Thanks! Will try that out. I also grabbed some insight from other solutions posted for others, will try pouring some water into the ice maker and see if it processes that. That will tell me for sure if it is the entire maker or just the water supply that may be bad. "

No water to ice maker

This could be because the ice is clumped in the ice bin. When the automatic defrost cycle occurs, heat is transferred to the freezer area. This can cause the cubes to melt slightly and refreeze back together. You can take the bin out and give it a good shake, or simply discard the cubes and start over with a fresh batch of ice cubes. By increasing the amount of food in the freezer compartment, you may be able to buffer the heat that comes from the defrost cycle and avoid clumping issues.
If you have a large ice bin and hardly use any ice, it is possible that the cubes have gotten stuck together just from the weight of the cubes on top of others.

Ice maker stopped working

The water line may be clogged with debris. there is sometimes a filter in the water line to the fridge, or also a screen filter may be located at the point where the water line connects to the fridge. If they are clogged, your ice maker will not make ice and may even burn out.
Check that the water in the line is flowing freely. Also it might be a good idea to defrost the freezer in case you have a ice buildup in the freezer compartment. To do that, empty the freezer and blow air into the freezer for 30 minutes while the power if off. Note, keep the other side closed to protect the milk and other perishables.

Ice maker quit after my husband over filled the top shelf and blocked the air flow for the freezer. The freezer started to defrost itself and water was on the floor in front of the freezer. He unblocked...

Yes, If you will try a couple things. Fill ice maker with water and let freeze. Tell me if it will drop the ice when frozen, Let me know that and your model number. I am doing this to decide which one is the problem. The ice maker or the water control valve. Sea Breeze

Maytag side by side, msd2456de will not make ice, I have water that dispenser works fine, I believe freezer is cold enough what could be the probem?

If water is not getting to the ice maker the fill ice maker with tap water. Wait until it freezes and dumps and then replace the dual water control valve on back near floor. Sea Breeze

Exactly the same.

The hose that carries the water from the top coil to the evaporator pan is plugged with ice. You need to leave your unit unplugged for a long time so the ice in the drain hose can melt. If you restart it too soon the problem will not be solved.

Ice maker flooded top freezer compartment

It may be just the water control valve on back of refrigerator. Put tap water in ice maker and lower lever for on. After ice is made, does it drop to tray? At this time when empty is the time the control valve is asked for water. The problem could be in valve on back or the inside ice maker itself. If you can try a few test with me I will help you locate the problem. Let me know what you find as I go through this with you. Sea Breeze

Water leaking out onto floor

Scott you are dead right with the drain. If you open the freezer door and look inside at the back in the middle of the plate at the back on the very bottom there is a small hole. This hole goes all the way down through the fridge and then finally to a dish that sits ontop of the compressor via a hose. If any part of this hose is blocked then it will find an easier path which is uually out the front and on the floor. The most likely culprit would be ice. Leave it off for a half a day or so so the ice melts then turn it back on and test it for a week. Do not turn the thermostat up very high otherwise the problem will reoccur.I hope this helps.
