Blower/vac will not start, has a new spark plug, has a bright blue spark checked with a spark tester. Freshly mixed gas, tore down to check the crank key its good. Any other ideas?
Try a squirt of starting fluid in the carb. If it runs on this ignition parts are good. Doing this will pull the old fuel through. Do this a few timesTry a squirt of starting fluid in the carb. Hi Paul:
I'd start by pulling the spark plug, attaching it to the lead, then spin it over and check for spark.
This will probably be a 2 cycle motor (Check to confirm) so make sure your fuel is mixed correctly.
No starts are usually because the engine lost spark (ignition) or fuel. Check for spark on a plug wire with the engine cranking. If spark is a bright, blue spark, then it may be a gas problem: check fuel pressure, and check injection circuit. Auto stores rent or loan fuel pressure testers. If pressure is not as specified (about 40 psi), suspect a weak or failing pump, or a clogged fuel filter.
Hi Dennis Hi Make sure you are getting spark at the spark plug, to do this: Remove your spark plug and check to be sure you are getting a bright blue spark at the spark plug. You do this by grounding the plug on the head of the engine and cranking the engine or by pulling the crank rope...watching the plug for spark. If you are getting a nice blue spark then skip A below and go to B. A...If you do not get a nice blue spark then you may need to replace the electronic module. Note: If you have to replace the module be sure to measure the position it is in, it is critical to starting. Take a picture for later reassembly. B...Also take some fine grit sandpaper (not emery) and lightly sand the flywheel where the magnet is located to clean any rust or corrosion from the magnet area. Bud
Check 1. Compression 2. Gas/oil mix 3. Air filter 4. Spark at spark plug. This is just the beginning of troubleshooting a 2 stroke. They develop fuel line problems and carburetor problems and magneto air-gap problems. Critical though is the oil/gas fuel mix that is used. It needs to be fresh and mixed at the correct ratio. Check all these things that you can and post back.
Put a spoon full of gasoline straight down the plug hole. Reinstall the plug, if it starts then you obviously have a fuel problem. You may need a new kit installed in the carburetor. Easy fix.
If a small engine wont start its usually one of two problems, its not getting gas, or its not getting spark. easy way to find out if its getting a spark is to remove the plug, put it back back in the connector and just let it hang down while you try to start it. you should see a bright blue spark, if you dont try changing the spark plug. if its getting a spark come back on this site and i'll help you trouble shoot it.
