MIDI Keyboard note delay problem, not latency problem PLEASE HELP

Hi I have a Casio CTK-491 keyboard that I purchased mainly for its functions as a MIDI keyboard. I have it connected with a generic brand midi in/out to USB cable and connected to my PC. The problem is this: MIDI signals are transmitted flawlessly with almost no delay, but regardless of how fast or slow i play the notes they always play three notes behind. For example, let's say I hit the C note three times, then i hit the E note three times. The first two times I hit the C note nothing plays, but by the time I hit it the third time it plays normally, and then once I have switched to the E note the first two times I press it a C note plays then the third time I finally hear the E note. I've played it as fast as 150 bpm and as slow as 10 bpm and the same thing happens every time. I use fruity loops and ableton live interchangeably and the problem happens on both softwares, so I'm wondering if it is a hardware problem with either the keyboard or the computer. Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

You are suffering from midi latency. There is a good article about this at www.thewhippinpost.co.uk/latency.htm There is also some good advice there.

How to do a master reset on a ctk-491 keyboard, no sound from speakers

Does unit power up? A "dead" keyboard could likely be a defective "wall-wart" power supply BUT don't forget to check the AC outlet as well. If the function lights come on but no audio, I would 1st check with headphones but if that is also dead it may be related to either the slider style volume control on the keyboard, or internal electronic failures.

Casio Chord is internal to the keyboard and doesn't come out on MIDI. Transpose is similar and while the button may send a MIDI transpose type signal out, the notes will not transpose in your computer...

You will need MIDI cable - widely available from good musical instrument (keyboard) stores and on the internet
For more information about using MIDI on your keyboard see the appropriate section in teh user's manual here http://support.casio.com/pdf/008/ctk_491_01_e.pdf

Can I use it as controller for Fruity Loops? How? Thanks. The model that I have is Casio CTK 496.

You can use this keyboard via MIDI to send note on/off information to FriutyLoops. Use for control functions will be somewhat limited to voice change, velocity, and aftertouch.

My casio 496 cannot connect to fruity loops

Unfortunately your model of Casio only has midi in and not midi out. You will be able to use it as an external sound module but not to input notes into Fruity Loops. In other words midi out of your computer to midi in of the Casio with the proper settings will play your Fruity Loops sequences through the Casio.

Casio ctk-496 claims to be midi keyboard controller

Try downloading MidiOx and troubleshooting with it. It will show you if you have any midi activity and which channel your Casio is transmitting on etc.
