Washing machine was making noise when agitating & spinning

Then it started stopping in the middle of agitating or spinning, would smell like burnt rubber & the noise got worse, sounded like there were a bunch of marbles or rocks somewhere in the wash. It would restart again about an hour later, & repeat again-stop, smell burnt rubber, etc. My husband replaced the belt, wasn't it. This Saturday, we replaced the motor & it worked ok for about 15 minutes, it stopped again & smelled real bad burnt rubber, worse than before. Started up again but would only agitate, not spin or drain water, just a hum, then would stop. We drained the water by dropping the hose. When my husband checked the bottom of machine, the belt had turned the pulley black & looks like belt melted on pulley. Now it won't work at all, just hums.

Does not agitate nor spin and makes loud noise. Also black rubber belt at bottom has worn off and come off the motor. Is this the cause?

This sure sounds like a bad transmission. Turn the transmission by hand to feel and listen to it. It should be smooth and quiet.

I have a GE stackable washer/dryer model GTUP240EMIWW. Initially would not agitate or spin. Determined drive motor faulty as lid lock worked fine. Replaced motor and worked however still no agitation or...

If you are you able to turn the agitator by hand, then it is likely that something has failed. Bearings can and do fail without noise or residue. If you know what you are doing, then I suggest you dismantle the machine completely and find the part that has failed. If you do not know what you are doing, then find a repair centre that works on this make.

I have a kenmore 700 series top-loader washing machine. Its about 8 years old but looks pretty new. My knob turns fine but the housing enclosure for the number does not turn with the knob. I have to...

The burnt plastic smell is probably the belt that drives the agitator. There may be something stuck (wrapped) around the shaft under the agitator that tightens the gears so the belt just slips and heats up. Remove the agitator and make sure the shaft is clear. also if it is belt and gear driven, check the gears. This means removing a panel or turning the unit sideways to inspect from below. The hum is the motor either not turning or turning with the belt too tight.
Hope this helps...

I have a LG front loading direct drive washing machine (WM1812CW) that is 5 years old that is making a loud knocking noise during the spin cycle and is emitting a burnt smell after the cycle ends. ...

It seems you need to have a new sealing rubber fitted. IN THE MEANTIME, if the knocking happens again when the spin starts, stop the machine, let the washing drop to rest, and then start it again, the re-positioning of the fabric inside the drum should even out. Also, do not load with say.. only towels, that way the weight is one sided and will make the drum spin in an uneven way.

Kenmore washer stopped agitating

Hi tyecherry,

This is a very common problem. The motor coupling has failed and needs to be replaced. I've written up SO many repairs for this, I decided to make it easy on you and me.

Here's a video on how to fix it. The part number for the coupler is 285753.

Good luck!

NO Agitator, draining or spin

Since the breaker did not trip i am going to assume that the washer stopped because the motor overload switch tripped or contacts burnt. Was there any smell of any burning (electrical burning)?. It could have stopped because a contact on the timer got burnt too. Have a look also at the water level swirch
