Not getting a spark when I pull the trigger

This is my first time using this site. I have a problem with my plasma cutter. Its a cut50D plasma cutter. Was from China, that might be the problem but it was cheap. Visual inspection shows everything to be ok. I was cutting one day then I heard a small pop on the machine. After that pop, I tried cutting again and I dont get a spark. Everything sounds and seems to work perfectly but I dont get a spark... I mean, EVERYTHING sounds and works perfect. The light dont show that it has a problem, fans are on, air comes out. The coils inside the machine are all soldered on. I dont see any loose wires. i dont know what the problem is. Hopefully someone can help out because although this machine was cheaper than others, it was still expensive for me. Its practically new. Thanks.

Try checking the front Panel and Internal fuses, as well as the thermal overload.

This could happen when you exceed the duty cycle.

eg: 20% Duty Cycle In a period of 10 Minutes, 2 minutes cutting, 8 minutes not.

Best of luck

I have a simadre cut50D an I don't have the ground cable can I still use it?

No. Check here for the specifics of how plasma cutters work: http://home.howstuffworks.com/plasma-cutter4.htm Without a ground cable, you cannot complete a circuit, and the physical basis of how a plasma cutter works doesn't function.

Spectrum thunder plasma cutter will not cut steady, keeps stopping and have to pull trigger to cut

Check the contactor contacts for pitting. if severly pitted, replace contactor. If a death grip on the switch makes it work better then a light touch- replace the trigger switch.

Spectrum 2050 plasma cutter . Cutter blows air and stops when trigger is pulled no pilot arc or any cutting when trig is released air flows again and stop after 10 sec new tips was working the day...

Check compressed air pressure is in limits otherwise unit will cut out. Try adjusting the pressure up. also make sure the supply pressure is correct as it may not be your plasma cutter at fault.

Spectrum 2050 plasma cutter will not arc

Possible failure of the trigger switch and or the cable back to the unit. Use an ophmmeter to check that the trigger and cable are good,

Then with the ohmmeter check the continuityu of the cable to the electrodes,

Connectors are always suspect.

These are starting ponts to check.

Pull the trigger ,air comes out no fire

Ck the ground and the condition of the tip. The more it gets concave the harder it gets to get a arch. Gun angle is also important, hold at right angle to work and don't forget a very good ground.
