This could be caused by tons of problems. I'm going to assume you've checked the spark at the plug first. If not then you'll want to pull the plug out, leave connected to the wire and check to see if there's a blue spark when you pull the starter string. When my trimmer finally wouldn't start (or keep running) I found there were small cracks in the fuel lines. It was causing problems with the prime (for starting) and then with the running. My engine wasn't leaking fuel so it was hard to find.
