PF8384X1 Pulsar I got this yesterday, store-new. It wasn't running when I got it, but it clearly has power as the stopwatch works. However, even after looking through the manual I can't get it to simply run - the booklet doesn't mention this issue at all, or how to just set it going. So far all I can do is get it to run its stopwatch until it hits its 12-hour limit.

Return it to the store you bought it from. I bought something that was similar to your' purchase, but mine was from a garage sale. Thought I got the bargain of a lifetime...wrong!

SOURCE: Resetting stopwatch dials - Armani AR5331

When you reset the big seconds hand to zero, the hour and the minute hand are not engaged in this function, so, there is no fault with the watch movement.
Do as follows:
1) pull out crown and set the hour and minute hands at 6 o'clock (they must be lined perfectly in opposite directions)
2) push the crown in half way back (not completely)
3) push and hold the button at 2 o'clock (set the big seconds hand to zero) and release it when done
4) when big seconds hand is zeroed push the crown back in
5) pull the crown out again and set desired time
6) push the crown back in.
If all actions described do not work, you will have to visit your nearest watch repair shop and ask to refit chronograph hand as in this case it is out of balance (not pointed at exact mark).

SOURCE: Sweep 2nd hand operation & watch time setting on my Pulsar watch.

The larger second hand on the Pulsar PF8036 is part of the stopwatch feature. The upper button starts/stops the stopwatch feature, and the lower button operates the lap/reset function. Why they made the larger hand work only with the stopwatch instead of the smaller hand to the left is beyond me, but that's how it is designed.

My mother has a fifteen year old Pulsar Y480-5730 that doesn't run anymore. Any recommendations?

Did you check the watch battery? Pulsar watches run a long time! If a new battery does not start it up you can take a can of air and just squirt a little in the area where the battery goes (very gently) to blow out any dirt then install the battery and put back on. If it is still not working you need to take it to your local jewelry store to have an estimate for repair, usually 60.00 to 80.00. I hope this helps!

How do I set the Pulsar Alarm-Chronograph N944-6A00

Short answer: You download the Operational Guide from Pulsar:

http://www.pulsarwatches.com/home2.asp#FAQ (look for N944 which is PGC series).

Longer answer: It is baffling to do this without the manual. You put the watch in -0- mode (crown fully in), pull the crown out to first stop, then us the A and B buttons to zero the 1/10th and second hands, then pull the crown out to second stop, then use the A and B buttons to zero the minute and hour hands. Then, you put the watch in "Time" mode (crown fully in), pull the crown out to the second position, and use the A and B buttons to set the time. You have no functioning second hand except for the stopwatch - in Time mode it acts as the calendar hand.

My Pulsar YT57 stops after 2/3 days if not worn even after previous continual use for several days, the instruction book refers to up to 6 months. L.Charlton.

You have to find your nearest watch repair shop and ask to replace CAPACITOR. This is a short name for Kinetic E.S.U. used by watch professionals. After replacing this part your watch will run as new and will keep power reserve as described in this manual:

http://www.pulsarwatches.com.au/manuals_pdf/73_1.pdf

P.S. I would recommend to charge the watch as described in manual first, and only if it does not work, go to the repair shop.
