LG 47 External Audio Control

I have a (new) 47" LG LCD (47LG50) that I have hooked up to my (old) Bose Lifestyle Model 5. I have my audio cables connected to the AUDIO OUT ports on the LG and going to the AUDIO IN ports on the Bose. Pretty basic setup. I have audio coming out of the Bose speakers however I cannot control the volume via the TV. In other words, for example, when I turn the volume all the way down on the TV, the internal TV speakers do turn down, however audio is still coming through the Bose speakers. I can only control the volume by turning down the volume on the Bose system itself.

I've never had this issue before with my other receivers. Any advice would be appreciated.

Mike

The issue is not the receiver, it is the TV. The output from the LG is a FIXED output not a variable one. There may be a menu option to change that in the TV, but I'm not sure. Many people turn off the TV speakers when using a stereo for sound. If the TV output was dependent upon the volume control of the TV, there would be no way to shut off the TV speakers.

Double check the rear of the set for a set of outputs labeled VARIABLE. Connecting the receiver to those would do as you wish.

I recently connected a Panasonic DVD player to our 47lg50 LCD television using an S-video cable. I cannot get sound so am assuming I need another cable to connect to the audio out ports on both and dvd...

Yes, you are correct - S-video does not have provisions for audio - it is strictly video. To connect audio, you need two RCA cables, normally colored red and white, right and left respectively. Connect output to input from the source to the destination. The source is the DVD audio out and the destination is the TV audio in.

Hooking up a Bose Lifestyle 30 II to an optical audio output

Actually, you can do this. Just get an optical to RCA converter.
This looks like a good one: http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-40019-Optical-Converter/dp/B0002GV876/ref=pd_cp_e_2

Lcd has audio only no video from any input source

There are two places to look for the problems, the backlight inverter board and the power supply. Look at the power supply first since it is easier to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc.

Ive got bose lifestyle model 5 system and have just bought a samsung led tv, how to I connect up the bose to the tv??

There should be an AUDIO OUT left and right rca input/output plugs on the back of te TV; according to this, (http://www.bose.co.uk/GB/images/Lifestyle%205%20Series%20II%20Music%20System_tcm6-4083.pdf) the inputs for the audio are right next to the FM antenna port/plug so, if you have one of these; (http://www.inmax.ca/images/rca-cable.gif) just plug them in to the AUDIO OUT on your TV, and into the INPUT on your Bose system.

Our Bose lifestyle 5 has no sound does the Bose CD disk restore the sound card. Mfg.1997 too old to do this must we buy a new one or does this cost a lot for repair ?

This can be repaired of it's later than a series 1. (not sure if the 1997 model was a series 1) Repair cost will be $225 plus tax (flat rate). Shipping is split between you and Bose. They give you a new 1 year warranty.
Otherwise, Bose can have you trade this in for about 25% off a new, current system.
-If this still powers up, make sure the small 1/8" portion of the input cable (plugged into "system control 1") is in good condition, because you may just need to replace that input cable for a no audio situation. If it's a different series, it will say "zone 1" I think.
In either case, you should call Bose tech support about this. (800-367-4008) Make sure you're with your system so they know what series of LS5 this is.
