Yardman MTD 42" riding mower stops moving while cutting. If I engage to a higher gear it starts to move along again. Then stops again until I keep engaging to a higher gear each time The engine sounds fine and the engine never stops.

SOURCE: Craftsman riding mower won't move.

yes it is a bad belt unless it is a hydro-stat(no clutch) you need to look under the mower and see if the belt is on correctly

Mower belt will not engage ?

First is to check the belt diagram and make sure your belt is on the correct side of the engagement pulley. This would be the one on the left side of deck with a spring attached.

Mower for Yardman 760 will only move in forward gear or reverse for a few minutes, then will not move in either direction whether the blades are engaged or not.

The drive belt going to the rear transaxle is either worn or the incorrect length. If drive belt has not been replaced in awhile, I would recommend getting it replaced. Hope this helps.

My MTD Yardman ride on mower seems to be stuck in gear, in that it wont move. Is there some way I can release it?

It would be very unusual to be stuck in gear, i think it more likly the brake is stuck or seized on, check the small disc brake on the side of the gearbox, the arm should have plenty of free play, if not adjust the nut on the outside anti clockwise, this should pull the pads away from the disc.
