Google is asking for my password. It has never

and someone changed the password on you

need to contact google mail
open a new gmail account with a stronger password

It looks like the whole world now has your passwords. Change them.

if you clicked a link in the email asking you to change password you may have been hacked.

Have you tried going to Gmail and requesting a new password using your same email user name?

Try that.
If that does not work you may have been hacked and you cannot get into your old mail.

You may need to create a new gmail account and NEVER give out your user name or password to someone sending you an email asking for it. NO ONE should be asking you for your private information in an email.

Visit https://www.google.com/accounts/recovery?continue=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.co.uk%2F and request a password reset. It should send it to your alternate email, if you haven't set one it will ask a security question.

You should be able to connect by using your Google ID and password.

Try going to Settings > Applications > Manage applications > Market > Clear Cache.

And then try the Market again.
