Check the gap on your plug. .030 is what it should be. also make sure that your
kill cable is working properly and not grounding the engine out.
the gap for you magneto should be set to .010 to .012
loosen up the magneto insert a standard business card or 3x5 card
then turn the flywheel so that the magnet on the flywheel pulls the magneto into it. then tight the magneto mounting screws down. try spark now. always use fresh gas. -no-water- if in doubt throw it out.
gas is BAD after only 30 days.

Mtd yardman wont start getting feul no spark detected

if you have no spark check the contact between the flywheel magnet and mag and make sure they are clean and the gap is set ( old school the thickness of a cig. pack) if that doesn't do it check the wire and end for contact. Still no you probably need a new mag

I evidently put too much oil in the Proulan Pro Lawn Mower. Now I cannot get it started. It sputters at first but will not start. I have cleaned off the spark plug with a paper towel and sand papered the...

First thing is to remove the excess oil. Take out as much as you need to to get to the line on the dipstick. Next, you may want to use a little WD-40 or similar cleaner to spray into the spark plug hole to thin the oil in there. Replace the spark plug and start the machine a number of times until it runs correctly. Using WD-40, remember the term "little". Good luck...Lee

Yardman 6.5 HP XL 21'' CUT S/N#D06786CN

See if it will start with a little splash of fuel down the carb.

If it starts for a second you probably have a plugged main jet.

The mowers collect a little bit of fuel in the bottom of the carb and then water comes along and it makes rust and gunk and turns the brass stuff all green. You remove the main jet and clean the two holes on the bottom and the little tiny hole at the top of the threads *(you should wire brush the threads and get a tiny piece of wire strand to clean this jet.)

I know you ran the mower till it ran out of gas....but that was only till it ran out of enough gas to fuel the main jet. There was still fuel residue in the fuel line and the bowl.

This should be a fast fix though. Good luck and be careful!

My yardman push mower is not working. When I pull the start cord it pulls back on me. do you know why it is doing this?

the reason it is doing that is because the little flywheel nut on top has ball bearings in it & there possibly stuck what you have to do is take the shroud off & there is a little screen in top bolts down to it pull it off & there should be a small pin hole in the top put a little bit of oil in it & spin it by hand a few times to free it then try it
