Restart your computer and then press and hold F8 keys until you get Advanced Options menu screen.Use the arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, and then press Enter, your computer will boot automatically to safe mode.
If you able to start in the safe mode then Scan your computer for viruses. Some viruses can cause a black Screen , especially ones that infect the master boot record (MBR) or boot sector.
Update drivers for your hardware. black Screens are hardware or driver related so updated drivers could fix the cause of the STOP error.
Return BIOS settings to their default levels. An overclocked or misconfigured BIOS can cause all sorts of random issues, including black screen.
If it doesn't helps you then simply get the system utility program like PC Fresher that will fix windows errors that cause of black screen screen

Sounds like an extended desktop. have you tried dragging an open window (ie. internet explorer webpage) to the top, right, bottom, AND left? When you get to one of the edges, move it like you are moving it off and it should move to the other screen. You can change your setting to 'duplicate' your desktop in your video settings.

you have major problem here - the power regulator on the motherboard which regulates the line voltage down to 12V to feed the inverter, and battery voltage /up/ to 12V to do the same, is blown. I've seen this happen in HP laptops - line voltage to the inverter on mains power reads at 18.2-18.5V (which overloads the inverter), on battery it reads 10.5-11 (which won't fire the inverter). This is usually a sign of a bigger problem. Usually one that involves replacing the motherboard.
