ICe build-up on coils and frezer does not freeze after a few weeks from thawing.
Ice developes on coils and freezer will not freeze. I have opened-uo the cover, thawed the coils and it wors fine for 2 weeks untill it does it again. I have researched what componant is bad but not sure which one to replace. Some say defrost thermostat and some say temperature device. Any suggestions?

the defrost heater could be bad it is in the back pannel under the coil also the defrost timer could be bad some refrigs the defrost control comes from the ice maker when the freezer coils get frosted uo on air flow out into freezer and over the icemaker section
There is a drain the back of the freezer that is frozen. Your trickle of water comes from the ice that melts off of the refrigeration coils during the defrost cycle. You need to turn off the freezer, then remove the rear cover from the back wall to expose the coils. With a hair dryer, melt all of the ice. You will find a drain under the coils. Melts all of the ice in this drain so water can get out of the freezer. When this drain is clear, you can put everything back together, and your freezer should work normally.
You will need to remove the bottom freezer crisper and check the defrost drain , to see if it is iced over . If so , then use a hairdryer to melt the ice ( hot water also helps ) . When you see the drain , ( could be obvious obstruction from plastic ) , use a small hose inserted into the hole , to blow thru , to remove any unseen debris blockage . You may have to remove the rear inside freezer panel to access this drain , depending on your model number .
So make sure the drainhole is open. When it happened to mine this was the problem.
Make sure nothing is inhibiting air flow. I don't think it is advisable to store food in an ice machine however that is not likely the problem unless the food itself is inhibiting air flow. Most ice machine manufacturers recommend against storing any food in an ice machine. If there is a freezer component in you model the check to see if the evaporator coils are frosting up and the frost is blocking airflow causing the ice storage chamber to get warm. High humidity can cause frosting. Leaving a door to the ice maker open too long can cause frosting. A low refrigerant charge can do this although it seems logically like it should not. With a very slightly low charge one end of the evaporator gets super cold and the other end is not cold enough. Frosts starts collecting on the super cold end and accumulates across the evaporator coil to the other end eventually blocking all air flow. With too much humidity from open doors frost accumulates over the entire evaporator evenly but still blocks. You shut the unit down. It thaws out and works OK on restart until frost again builds up. If its not a frosting problem but it just stops making ice then the ice may not be releasing. Check the water supply and change any filters to insure good water flow. A good water supply is required for proper release and harvest of the ice in many ice machines. If the ice doesn't release it takes a shut down and thaw to clear the suspended ice out. Check for these things and write back if you need further assistance and can provide me with more details.
If the freezer is on top then empty out the freezer and remove the bottom and back liner of the freezer compartment usually phillips screws. In the back you will see the freezer coils along with a defrost element. Below these two items u will see a drip tray that collects water from the coils on defrost cycle, in the center of the pan will be a drain hole that connects to a hose that leads to a pan under the refrigerator.Normally the water is collected there and evaporated. The hole in the tray in the freezer is clogged. Thaw it and clean it until you can pour water in it and it goes to the pan down below. please rate me
There is a drain located behind the back panel of the freezer. If you pull the back panel off, it will be underneath a unit that looks like the radiator of a car. This pan has a hole on the bottom that will occasionally freeze up. Pour some warm water in the pan and see if the water drains to the pan under the unit. If it doesn't, use hot water or a hair dryer to thaw it out.
a defrost problem, is gonna cause excessive ice build up in hte frezzer lower compartment. for somereaon the hdefrost heater was not energized. most common reason is a bad defrost thermostat, clipped on one of hte evaporator coils has gone bad,
common problem is part number 67003375 adaptive defrost control. also reccomend replacing part number 67003964 at same time. control located in refrige behind left upper panel. def therm clipds on evaporator behind panel in freezer.
