We have a KitchenAid dishwaser Model # KUDI02CRWH0 it filled up with water and flooded the floor when we were away on holidays. We ran a cycle through it and it seems to work but by morning it has water in it and is leaking again. What do I need to look at or fix to get this unit fixed with out calling in a repair man?
Is the water clean water or dirty water? This may sound like an ignorant question, but it can make a difference. If the water is clean water, it sounds like you could have a bad fill valve. If the dishwasher is filling with water when it is not running, chances are the fill valve is leaking. The valve is closed when the float switch senses the tub filling to a certain level. The valve is also closed when not energized by the control board during drain, drying and off cycles. However, if the valve diaphragm is not seating properly when closed, it will continue to leak by. That's probably why you don't notice it while is running and it has a chance to fill during the night when not in use. Here's what to look for: With the dishwasher off, take a towel and dry the tub as much as possible. Now, locate the fill port where the water comes in (usually on the left hand side of the tub). Watch this fill port closely for several minutes to see if water is running in. It could be as minute as a trickle or drip. If any water is coming in at all, the fill valve should be replaced. Now, another problem that can occur is when you notice dirty water staying in the tub or overflowing. This is usually caused by a bad check valve in the drain pump that's allowing water to leak back from the sink into the tub. Or, you do not have a high loop in the drain line. Here's what to look for: Check to make sure the drain line has a high loop as it leaves the dishwasher and before it gets to the drain pipe at the sink. That is, make sure the drain hose is looped above the trap in the sink and not laying under the sink somewhere. You can also try filling the sink with water and open the dishwasher door. Drain the sink to see if anything is getting fed back into dishwasher. If you see water starting to fill in the tub, chances are you could have a bad check valve. Some dishwashers have a check valve in the drain pump, while other models have the check valve located in the drain hose itself. Some don't have one at all. That's why the positioning of the drain hose can be important. Good luck to you and I hope this may help. If you determine a cause, post back with comments if you need advice on how to replace anything.
It would be both considerate and helpful if you would post back comments. If you rate advice as "Not Helpful" and don't leave any remarks, how can the technician help you any further? The advice I gave you is a best guess solution based on the symptoms you provided. It's often very difficult to provide an exact solution when I'm not there to actually see what is going on with your appliance. I base my advice on my experience as an appliance repairman and have corrected this problem on several occasions. I took the time to give you detailed advice on what to look for from the simplest possibilities, first. That way you rule out the possibility of overlooking something simple and purchasing parts or spending money on repairs that are not necessary. What have you done to determine a solution? Has your problem been resolved? Do you need further guidance? Good luck to you.
Thanks for the help! With your assistance, I've diagnosed the problem as a faulty fill valve. Now, I just need to figure out how to fix it! For the time being, we are shutting off the water to the dishwasher from under the sink, until we figure out how to fix it.
PERFECT, I almost have this figured out for my crappy Kenmore dishwasher. I see clean water coming in through my fill port just like you said. The water keeps flowing at a pretty good amount consistently. It does completely STOP when I shut the hot water valve off under the sink that goes to the dishwasher. So, now is this a dishwasher problem or..do I need a plumber and have a leaky water valve under my sink that needs replaced?
Thanks for your help, its been a long day of wet floors around here.
Thank you Jeff for the explanation.
We had water all over our kitchen floor and I wasn't sure where to start.
After cleaning up the water on the floor, I used a cup to take most the water out of the dishwasher tub, noted the water level, then came back a couple hours later and found the water level had risen since the last time I was there, so now I know to order a new fill valve.
Thank again!
If you shut the valve under your sink and it didn't stop yes that is a plumbing issue and the valve needs to be replaced.

Hello,
I have been reading and seen what other people has posted. I have a bad valve, it is leaking on the left side just like you said! Now how do I get this off? Twist it, turn it, or lift it? I don't wanna brake it!!! This is also a KitchenAid!? Model KUDRO1TJ... I have a few problems with this washer over the years! Is it just this brand dishwasher? Please help! And where can I get this valve at?
Thanks ahead
It could be a stuck overflow protection float, a bad spray arm seal or door seal seal or food / foreign objects in the way of the door.

I turned on my dishwasher and ran it, it worked fine but now it is getting clean water in the bottom of the dishwasher and it has ran on to my floor.
Hi,
I have a different KitchenAid built in dishwasher Mod # KUDP02CR, but had a similar problem. Went on vacation, came home to find water in dishwasher and buckled wood floor. Water in house was turned off at intake to house and the drain has an air gap. Only water available was in the pipes which probably localized the floor damage. I hate to think how much water would have leaked had the water been on. It hasn't happened again in the past week and have used 2 times and do not seen any water leaking into the unit. What could have caused this leak? The unit is just over a year old.
filled up with water
after running dishwasher dish it appears to refill with dirty water have tested it and itfills from water used at kitchen sink i think it is a problem with the hose but do not know what to do to correct it

Great suggestions! I like the loop. I'll get back with the results.

Water will not flow into newly installed KitchenAid KUDE48FX
I replaced the float switch and it worked fine for a few weeks, now during the fill cycle it's leaking again.
