I have a 99 Chevy Tahoe 5.7 with starting problems. I have done the following: Replaced right front oxygen sensor, replaced crankshaft sensor, replaced coolant sensor, installed new ac delco rapid fire #12 plugs, done a fuel pressure test with the following results: 58 pounds with key on and 52 pounds with engine running. Each thing I did seemed to help a little, none of the things done were done without a code except replacing all 8 spark plugs ( I was only getting a misfire code on #2 cylinder) Still have to crank quite a while to get it too start cold, once its run a bit it will start up fine. Help???

Replaced the distributer cap and the problem is fixed. Starts and runs good now!

What code(s) were you getting? That being said, is the engine carburated, throttle-body injected, or multi-port injected? Need more info, please.

  • jallen231 Sep 29, 2013

I suggest removing and replacing your catalytic converters as they go bad with the pass through design and actually clog the exhaust causing all kinds of havoc to the vehicle. Good luck and best wishes.

Sound like either the mechanic didn't plug the sensor in all the way or you got a bad sensor, bank 2 should be the passenger side, sensor 2 is the sensor after the catalytic converter.

Po138 code on 96 chevy tahoe 5.7l where do i start testing

P0138 is a code for an unexpected high voltage in the post cat o2 sensor on the left side (bank 1 sensor 2). It often is a result of an internal short between the oxygen sensor heater and the actual oxygen sensor. I would clear the core and if it returns replace the sensor.
