Kenmore range 970-6867 Heard a loud noise while

Kenmore range 970-6867 Heard a loud noise while baking , oven was filled with grey smoke. Oven no longer heats up , broiler works , stove elements all work , clock set correctly and no error codes. Would think just the element blew but loud noise and amount of smoke have me wondering. Please advise.

Richard, sounds like you did all the pretests. You'll need a new display panel. When you work on it, be sure to cut the power.

SOURCE: baking element not working

If you have already replaced the bake element (which would have been MY first logical choice) and it still does not work, the problem is more likely with the Electronic Clock Control. The control has two separate circuits that will select and turn on either the bake of the broil elements. It is usually a defective relay that causes the particular mode of choice to stop working. The part number for the ECC is 1166040 and costs about $128. It's not a cheap fix, but it would cost you much more if you had a service man fix it for you. Unless...of course, you still have a warranty. Most manufacturers cover all parts from defects for the 1st year. Some parts are covered longer than the initial warranty, however. It may be worth you while to double check your purchase date and appliance paperwork. This repair is not difficult and can be accomplished by the average do-it-yourselfer. If you decide you want to repair the appliance on your own, let me know and I can give you step-by-step instructions on how to do it.

PS Double check the wiring from the ECC to the bake element as well. You could have a broken wire causing the same symptoms too. Also, don't be alarmed by the failure of the ECC. Although they are generally reliable for quite a number of years, they have been known to fail during electrical storms and/or power surges. Something else you may consider: check your home owner's insurance policy to see if it covers the loss of appliances in the event of such incidents. I hope you find this information helpful.

SOURCE: MAYTAG STOVE PROBLEM...NEED HELP

the broiler came on automatically??? not a sensor issue. sounds as if you have a broken wire perhaps, or a faulty control panel energizing the broil element w/o being prompted to. does it say its broiling when element comes on??

SOURCE: Kenmore electric range

You need a new mother-board.

I had the same issue, it overheated my kitchen in a matter of minutes. If I didn't turn off the circuit-breaker, I probably would have had a fire - the heat being emitted was intense. The cost is running around $300. with tax and delivery. I'm not sure if I want to repair or purchase a new oven.

My Kenmore gas range 2274233 makes a loud noise when the oven is turned on.

Since it is new--have them bring you a new one. That should have been fixed before shipment

I was baking and heard a pop sound and saw a spark before the oven lost all power? What happened?

OOOPPs - not good , If you saw or heard a pop noise + spark then something blew or shorted.
If the 'loss' was quiet then a fuse or circuit breaker can blow without noise or sparks.
This oven has 4 Heating elements (2 on Grill) 2 inside oven , as you were baking it sounds like a heating element.
As this is a US model I'm assuming you are close to a SEARS somewhere, because they advertise parts made for Kenmore -- try this link http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Kenmore-Parts/Evaporative-coil-Parts/Model-867813350/0582/1610510/00007536/00001

Electric oven will not heat

look at the elements where they connect inside at the back and see ifthe connection looks burnt if it does take out the element and check continuity or ohms if you have continuity throughout the element then the connection may have grounded against the frame of the oven. You will have to pull oven out to check that though. Hope that helps.
