Craftsman yard tractor runs but take foot off brake it dies.....

Have Craftsman yard tractor it starts and stays running, as long as I keep my foot on the brake.  Once I lift my foot of the brake it dies, like running out of gas.  This also happens when I try to engage the blades.
Is there some tensioner or pulley I should be looking for that is causing the problem?  I looked underneath while my wife pumped the brake pedal and moved the blade engage thing but didn't see obvious breaks or anything.
HELP PLEASE!!!!
Thanks
Jerry

Check the under seat switch. The switch sometimes fails and this cuts the ignition except when the foot brake is down. You can use jumpers across the switch wires to test it.

I have a 2002 craftsman that did the same thing. The problem was the connection from the chassis harness to the motor harness. It would close the plunger on the Carb cause it didn't think the driver was there.

there is a safety switch under the seat. to stay running after the brake is released or deck engaged you have to be sitting on the seat or it will die. if this switch is bad it will die as soon as you release the brake.

Won't stay running when i take my foot off the brake pdl

It is caused by the safety system - the seat switch, or the wires and connections going to it, cause this problem. Lift up the seat and look to see if the seat switch mounting has come loose or is broken. Make sure the connectors on the seat switch are on tight. If all that looks OK, take the seat switch out and use tape to keep the plunger pushed in. If that fixes it, then the switch mounting is the problem. If that doesn't fix it, then replace the seat switch itself - it's not expensive.

My Craftsman 26hp tractor is running extremely ruff, I have replaced the plugs Confirmed that the plugs are working. It runs ruff at all speeds. The tractor was runing just fine a few weeks ago

You've changed the plugs have you checked the oil and air filter if not you need to because if not it might need changed and it may be low the rider my father gave me ran ruff and would die in 5th gear and I changed the oil and air filter now it stays going in all gears. So my suggestion to you is to to change the oil and air filter I am not a pro but I have had to keep my mowers going no help from anyone so I had to learn so if you don't agree with me check with a repairman.

Tractor Will Not Move And Dies When Brake Is Released

I would check the wires and clean the connectors and make sure seat switch is working. If that is not working, it's like getting off the seat without holding the brake/clutch pedal down or getting off seat with blades engaged. Both will cause engine to die.

Tractor won't stay running

You will have to pull the carburetor off and rebuild it. This means cleanig and adjusting. This should help your cause a bit. donnyb60
