A "media test failure, check cable" means your hard disk failed. The bios can not locate the boot sector of the hard disk to begin loading the operating system. "Operating system not found" means windows can't load because the Bios can not find the operating system (because the hard disk failed).
This is pretty much an unrecoverable error in terms of fast fixes. You can take the hard disk to a data recovery service if you need to retrieve important data or files.
This can be fixed.
Do you have the recovery disk for your Acer Aspire 5610?
If you do, just pop the disk into your cdrom and follow the on-screen directions

Select the driver(s) -- they should be on the "original" CD-ROMs that were factory-shipped with your computer.
Acer will send you out replacement disk at no charge! www.acer.com click support and ask them for the disk, other then that you have to buy a new operating system.
