If the compressor wOnt cycle, it means that the pressure is not correct. How much freon, (and what type) did you put in, and did you PULL DOWN (with vacuum) the system to about -29 inches before putting the freon in? Did you use manifold gauges? If so, what is the high pressure, and what is the low pressure, at what ambient temperature?
On your gauge,is "red" high pressure or low pressure?
If you are seeing a high pressure on your low side connected gauge and the compressor is not running,that is a "full charge" or better stabilized in the system.If your compressor is not "kicking in" you may have a defective electrical component in the A/C system.With the engine running,you can jump 12v power the the compressor clutch momentarily just to see if it is working.Don't leave it jumped to long as the system is designed to cycle with pressure from the low side pressure switch which is the next place to check and the compressor can also be jumped at the low side switch.
If your "red" is low or no pressure,then you have a leak and repairs to the system to stop the leak will have to be made.You can add 134a at this time with the engine running and A/C requested,and as pressure rises in the A/C system,the compressor should "kick in" and cold air should start flowing in your dash vents.45 degrees at the dash vent airflow temp usually equals a full charge.
DO NOT add any aftermarket "134a" that shows an EXPLOSIVE label on it.These are not 134a and are usually butane and/or propane mixes that you MAY NOT want spraying on you in a collision/any situation where the A/C system has become ruptured/compromised.
no --it cannot. R12 gas operates at a far lower pressure that r134a so if you want to use r134a gas you will have to replace compressor ,evaporator and condenser and have a cooling fan for the condenser fitted
Is it possible you hooked up to the factory service port on the high side instead of the low side port ? Can you hook up a set of gauges to both high and low ports ?
no it requires full 12 volts to work the clutch the coolant fans have no connection to the ac system so they will not run until the engine temp requires them to
there is a fan normally in front of the condenser coil that will start as soon as the ac compressor gets power
the ac will not work until there is sufficient charge in the system to activate the low pressure switch
have to ask are you using the right gas as 134A requires all new system( evaporator , condenser , compressor , hoses) as the pressures are very much higher than r12 gas
R12.... In 1994 R134a was required, but some changed earlier. Yours may have been converted. If the service ports are threaded it still has R12. Hope this helps.
The system could be low on refrigerant. The A/C pressure switch will not let the compressor run if the system pressure is below 28psi or above 455psi to protect the compressor from damage. At low pressures not enough oil (mixed in with the refrigerant) will circulate, and at high pressures, the compressor seals will likely blow. You can get a set of A/C manifold gauges for R-134a and check the system pressures yourself or get a shop to check it and possibly add some R-134a. If the system pressure checks good, then the A/C pressure switch, the compressor clutch, or some relays will need to be checked.
Use 134a ac gauges,this is a set one gauge reads the low side pressure,the other gauge reads the high side reading,witch,if read correctly,the gauge,as a set will tell everything about the ac system,and what is going on inside the system.If this was helpful,please rate,thank you
not happy here i bought a machine for recharging A/C and now they have started selling the gas in a can in the supermarkets ,2400€ for a machine and you can buy a can for about 25€ .could have a blocked restrictor valve ,venturi valve by whatever name you call it but its in the actual pipe on american cars and on the new ones here now as well,only need a bit of dirt to move in the system and it will block this valve evan if someone has put a leak sealer in this could cause the valve to clag up and not allow the gas through.strip and clean whole system blowing it out with an airline.This gas has to be recovered with a machine and released into the atmosphere.
