Sony playstation model scph 5501

I recently purchased a PS1 model SCPH 5501 and when I put in the game and turned it on it made a buzzing sound and wouldnt read the disc. I have taken it apart and have found nothing wrong. I then tried a cd and it would read the cd but it still made loud buzzing noises and would skip. It also wouldnt let me go to the next song. I then opened it and it turns out that the lens gets stuck and makes that noise and you then have to move it in order for it to stop. Should I return my Ps1 or try to buy new parts or is there anything I can do to fix this?

This is the optical laser lens - the motor is bad, or perhaps some bad gears. There is one for $19.99 - but make sure it fits your version of PS1 - they made a few models back then.

You can get a new one here.

SOURCE: Playstation 2 work read PS2 discs or DVD's. Please Help!

This is a problem with the laser that reads th disks. these lasers have two adjustments on the bottom of them, one for CDs (PS1 games) and one for DVD (PS2 games). It is sometimes possible to adjust the DVD side and get it to work (there are many tutorials on the web on how to do this), but unfortunatly this is a temporary fix. The only real fix is to buy another laser. They are also very abundant on the web (ebay is a great source for them too!). They are very reasonably priced now. Either way the unit will have to be disassembled. Hope this helps you out...

SOURCE: PS2 reads ps1 games but not ps2. Clicking noise

I have trash picked 2 of them and fixed this same problem. Just be prepared to spend some time and be patient. Clean the lens with glass cleaner. Under the lazer is a white gear it turn it two clicks clockwise and try a ps2 game. If it does not work turn it another 2 clicks. 4 clicks seems to be the magic number, after 4 clicks go only one click at a time until the game loads. This has worked numerous time for me. just keep track of how many clicks you do in case you want to bring it back to the original setting for some pointless reason. Good luck.

I have Sony play station 2 model SCPH 75004 which is failing to play PS1 DVD and CDs. I hear it requires a mod chip. Where can I get the mod chip and how is it installed to the PS2.

ruben, the PS1 is the only system created with the capability of adding a mod chip. When they first came out, the PS1Generation 1(PSX)could play burned games and DVD's. Sony discovered that it created an issue with the excessive wear of the cd drive, so they recalled the system. Then they re-released it and it couldn't play DVD's anymore. The PS2 could already play DVD so it has no mod chip function.

Can't play dual layered disk in playstation slim silver

I know, this is very annoying. Mine is SCPH-79001.
Just put in the game like you would any game (that would read) and you should hear a few ticks. Turn the ps2 horizontly with the front facing you. And whenever you hear a tick, just tap it against you knee, then you should hear it spinning.

My ps2 wouldn't read GH world tour or metallica, but know it works. Hope I helped

Ps2 not reading burnt Cd

I would suggest a Boot Disc which can be found here.

This is the best way to play burnt cd's without having to open up and make extensive changes to the inside of your ps2.

Which multitap do I buy?

There were two versions of the multi-tap made; one for the original fat PS2 and a smaller version made for the slim. The two versions are incompatible with the other PS2. If you have the original multi-tap connected to the slim, it should throw out the 'controller disconnected' message when you boot up. The slim version of the multi-tap should have a sticker on the bottom saying 'only works with models SCPH-70000, SCPH-75001, SCPH-75002'.

Other than the sports games, I don't recall any titles that allow more than two players anyway.

SCPH - 50004 Pal PS2 colour and reading problem

You need to buy those games which says PAL on it...Usually they have those PAL indications on the top right corner of the CASE of the DVD...of course you won't be able to play those NTSC games...it's just a compatibility issue, i think...cause your PS2 is a PAL model...
