How to check ink level - HP DeskJet 970cxi InkJet Printer

Hi,To check the ink level go to the printer properties in control panel. When you give any print job the the task bar icon of printer shows the ink levels.

Checking the ink levels A message will appear on the front panel display when the ink level for the print cartridge is low. The ink levels can also be checked through the HP Director on the computer.Checking the ink levels on a Windows computer

1. From the HP Director , click Settings , Print Settings , and then click Printer Toolbox .
2. Click the Estimated Ink Levels tab. The estimated ink levels appear for the print cartridges.

Checking the ink levels on a Macintosh computer

1. From the HP Director , click Settings , then click Maintain Printer .
2. If the Select Printer dialog box opens, select the HP PSC, and then click Utilities .
3. From the list, select Ink Level . The estimated ink levels appear for the print cartridges.

Method one: Check the ink levels from the idle screen on the color graphics display Look for four icons at the bottom of the color graphics display. The icons represent the ink level remaining in each of the four color ink cartridges: black, yellow, light cyan (blue), and light magenta (pink). A larger and more accurate view of the ink levels can be displayed from the Setup menu. If an ink cartridge containing non-HP ink is being used, a question mark displays instead of the ink drop in the icon for that cartridge. The HP All-in-One cannot detect the amount of ink remaining in ink cartridges that contain non-HP ink. Figure 1: Non-HP ink icon NOTE: HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP ink. Printer service or repairs required as a result of printer failure or damage attributable to the use of non-HP ink will not be covered under warranty. If a hollow ink drop icon displays, the ink cartridge represented by that color icon has very little ink remaining and will need to be changed soon. You might be able to continue printing for a short period of time with ink remaining in the print head assembly. Replace the ink cartridge when the Replace Soon warning message displays on the color graphics display. Figure 2: Low ink level icon When the Empty Ink message appears on the color graphics display, the indicated ink cartridge is out of ink. Replace the indicated ink cartridge. Method two: Check ink levels from the Windows computer The estimated amount of ink remaining in the ink cartridges can be checked from the computer. See the on-screen HP Director Help for information on checking the ink levels from the Printer

1. Open the printer Toolbox. To do so, do one of the following:
   • Open HP Solution Center, click the Settings menu, then point to Print Settings , then click Printer Toolbox .
   • Right-click the HP Digital Imaging Monitor in the tray, then point to your printer model name, and click Display Printer Toolbox .
   The Toolbox opens.
2. Click the Estimated Ink Level tab. The estimated ink level gauges display.

Method three: Check ink levels from the Setup menu

1. Press Setup on the printer control panel.
2. Scroll down and select Display Ink Gauge . The Ink Gauge status from the Tools menu will only display on the color graphics display.

Checking ink levelsUse one of the following methods to check the ink levels. Method one: Check the ink levels from the HP All-in-One The ink level is displayed on the main screen of the control panel display. Locate the two icons that represent the print cartridges. The icon on the left is for the color cartridge and the icon on the right is for the black cartridge.

• The exclamation mark (! ) symbol indicates a low ink level.
• The question mark (? ) symbol indicates the product cannot determine the status of the print cartridge. This might be because the cartridge is refilled.

1. Make sure the product is on and connected to the computer.
2. Open HP Solution Center .
• Windows XP: On the Windows taskbar, click Start , click All Programs , point to HP , and then click HP Solution Center .
• Windows Vista: On the Windows taskbar, click the Windows icon ( ), click All Programs , click HP , and then click HP Solution Center .
• Windows 2000: On the Windows taskbar, click Start , click Programs , point to HP , and then click HP Solution Center .
3. Click Settings .
4. Point to Print Settings , and then click Printer Toolbox . Printer Toolbox opens.
5. Check the ink levels displayed on the Estimated Ink Levels tab.

The ink level gauge may not work properly with refilled cartridges. Because of this, you might get low ink message after refilling. To install the refilled cartridge you might need to override the ink level gauge. Overriding the ink level gauge disables the printer’s ink level tracking feature, but allows you to use refilled cartridges. To override the ink level gauge, please check your printer reference guide. After disabling the ink level tracking feature you should check the ink level visually and as soon as the ink level gets low you need to refill the cartridge. You do not want to try to print with an empty cartridge. Trying to print with an empty cartridge may damage your print-heads.

1) printing a test page.
2)if you got HP solution Center with the software cd of the printer ans it is installed in the computer,you can easily check the ink levels there.
3)sometimes ink levels option is available in the priner drivers in the printers and faxes in the control panel.
4)right clik the printer icon and then goto properties and then you will find tabs to check the ink levels,it might be in the service this device under the maintenance tab.

doesnt matter most printers have a feature of their own to check ink levels.
press the setup button on the printer and scroll down(with the arrow buttons) till you get tools press ok and now scroll through until you get ink level and select it by pressing the ok button,walla you should have your ink levels in front of you.

Now about the hp solution centre/hp director icon on your desktop (if you have installed the software).
Click on settings and click on printer toolbox and now check your estimated ink levels it will show the ink levels of the printer cartridges.
