I have a Kenmore bottom freezer refrigerator.Model no.795-7756 4600 Serial no.610kr00489. The automatic shut off is not working. It keeps making ice until it is full to the top of the bucket then it freezes ever thing up on top of the ice maker. It hums like it's trying to dump but can't move.
The first time it happened I turned off the ice maker dumped the ice & let it defrost. After it defrosted I removed the excess water from the ice tray by soaking it up with paper towels. I turned it back on it did the same thing.
I now have it turned off. I would like to know how the cut off works & what I can do to fix it.
Thanks
Dennis
I'm not sure in your case if its better to order a new ice maker or if you want to take it apart and change the thermostat or possibly the limit switches. Some have a spring so if you try to do it yourself do it slowly and carefully as not to lose the internal parts. Let me know, I will help you if you need, Sea Breeze
Here is how your model is listed. KENMORE ELITE
REFRIGERATOR
Model# 79577564600 The replacement Ice Maker is model D7824706Q
When I was referring to limit switches and springs these are the internal parts of your Ice Maker They are very difficult to work on if you havn't done one before. Very Tedious, because of all small parts and settings are difficult to set without having done this before.
If you decide to replace the ice maker please go to (click link below)
http://servicepartstec.blogspot.com/
put your ice maker model number D7824706Q in the parts search feature. That will take you to a cost effective replacement.
I'm not trying to get you to buy. I just think it is the best route for most ice makers.
I also invite you to Appliance Junk Forum where you can post and read about these appliance problems. Click on link below. Become a member we would love to have your input. Just make sure if you replace, to confirm with the people you buy from that the model of your Kenmore matches the part number of the Ice Maker, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Thanks for the reply. It seams to be working at the present time. I defrosted it for two days, removed the excess water & moved the limit switch down & let it go back up several times. I would assume from your reply that if I continue to have this problem it would be in the limit switch. Thanks for the help if I continue to have this problem I may need information on how to adjust the limit switch.
