Onkyo TX-SR705 - No Audio - Flashing HDMI

Cannot get sound to my 7.1speaker setup either by Radio, CD, DVD via the Onkyo AV Receiver all connected via HDMI. I can only get sound on Zone 2 via the radio. I notice the HDMI flashes on the receiver. It not the dvd player or hdmi cable as it works fine connected directly to the TV.

Dvd connection is set to HDMI1,

I even tried a factory reset, but same problem.

Please help.

Hi, thanks for you advice, since posting this, sound has come back but its an intermitting problem, sometime it works and sometime it doesn't, like it has a mind of it own. When it comes back it will play for hours without problems if you had to leave it on radio, when you switch it of and back on again, no sound.

Can this still be the IC amplifier on the main board.

I had the exact same problem. I fixed it by resetting to factory settings: While receiver is turned on, press and hold down VCR/DVR button, then press ON/STANDBY button. Make sure you write down your current settings, so you can easily go through the setup after resetting.

I got the same problem today after using this receiver for over 6 years. Resetting to factory setting did not help. No sounds through speakers or headphones, on all inputs including radio tuner - not even static noise. HDMI is blinking too. Current workaround is to plug everything directly into HDTV and using TV's speakers, but need to find out how to fix my Onkyo receiver too.
If it's any relevant, when I plug in setup mic the receiver goes into Audesey mode, and says "press enter: next" but pressing enter has no effect.

Not a solving of the problem, just not sure how else to post on here but I have the exact same problem. it was working fine and all of a sudden i get no sound out of my receiver. Everything works fine if connected directly from tv/dvd and tv/cable box.

Were you able to find a solution?

SOURCE: new home theater setup- no signal at tv using onkyo tx=sr605

This might somewhat help. Today I went back .. I went HDMI out of the Cable box and DVD player into 2 of the TVs HDMI ins. The digital audio out from each, straight to the receiver and things are working ok. All speakers are working OK. Sound isnt as loud or crisp but unfortunately I found no other solution.

SOURCE: Onkyo TX-SR606 getting no sound from HDMI sources

Not sure if this is your fix, but I had what I thought was the same problem. I played with my Onkyo quite a bit ensuring the correct assignments for HDMI, audio and all that stuff. Turns out I neglected to make sure the output devices were properly assigned. Many devices aren't default to output sound over HDMI. I changed the audio out settings on the cable box to HDMI and suddenly the Onkyo worked great. I know, I'm an idiot for not checking that in the first place, but maybe someone out there is having the same trouble as well.

Sound won't play through Onkyo TX-SR605 when using HDMI

The chances are that you have selected an incorrect sound setting or not switched it on, for the HDMI you are using. With Onkyo receivers each connection will have it own settings for video and sound. You just need to look in the manual as to how to select the settings.

How do I link my Onkyo TX-SR507 to a PC?

It sounds like you don't fully understand the Onkyo's HDMI port assignment procedures.

But why burden an HDMI cable with audio only? Don't you have a coaxial digital or spdif optical output on the PC you could use? That would make things simpler for setup. Just jam it into one of the appropriate audio inputs on the Onkyo.

1080P video via HDMI generates awful interference

Your Plasma's native resolution is 720P. Go into the Blu Ray's output setup. you can choose 480p 480i 720p 1080i and 1080p. Set it for 720p that should clear up the issue. You may have to run Component directly to the TV since you only have 1 HDMI input and you can run Digital coax or optical to your AV receiver for audio. On a 50" TV the difference between 720p and 1080p using "GOOD" cables cannot be seen by the human eye. Above 50, yes it is noticeable.
Hope this helps.

Don't want to use receiver to turn Plasma on via Verizon DVR

You can not have a signal from cable/satelite TV when reciever is OFF.The only way is reconnect by using defferent setup configuration to illiminate the receiver. In that case you well see just regular Tv program but you should connect antena to your TV.

Picture sound blackout (blink) when cable box/receiver HDMI used

Onkyo service told me, the second timethat I called them, that there is a known HDMI handshake issue with Motorola and Atlanta Scientific cable boxes. The only solution, and it was a solution, is to connect the box through the HDMI 1 port ONLY. All the other (2,3,4) result in blinking/dropping of signal. I did this, changed the cable/satelilte setting to HDMI 1 and all is well.

Is using the HDMI at the receiverr better

Unless you have a Blu-ray DVD player you should be fine using HDMI into the receiver first.

HDMI connections

The three inputs will all carry picture and sound. You then will definitely picture out to the TV but sometimes, depending on the manufacturer, no audio because it is assumed the the AV receiver will handle all of the audio duties therefore no need for audio at the TV.

Could well be the quality of your cables. if you have high end cables the consult a service agent. if you have the cables that came with the products, go and get some better ones.
