SOURCE: AMANA SIDE BY SIDE, INOP, FREEZER COILS ICE, FAN

Check the BLUE wire from the temp control to the ORANGE wire of the defrost timer for continuity. That is the complete fan circuit. You should read the resistance of the Evap fan motor. If you do not read resistance suspect the pins of the evap fan motor connector or... the Unbilical harness from near the evap to the icemaker and the evap fan. The connector pins of the Evap fan motor connector (Freezer connector) are notorious for failing.

SOURCE: I have an amana abc2037des.

In both cases it was the defrost timer, an electric clock switch that turns the defrost on & off. On these, you can check this by manually advancing the timer until it goes into defrost. On my ~8 year old Amana, the timer can be advanced at a recessed screwdriver-slotted red knob on the ceiling of the frig portion just behind the panel with the temp controls. If yours has this, advance the knob & see if the defrost turns on (you can tell because the switch clicks and if the compressor is running at the time, it shuts off).

Easy and cheap to replace, if that's the problem. Also if the thing's iced up you can defrost it a couple times this way and get air moving again until you can replace the part.

Other guess could not thermostat. That doesn't control defrost. First check for power on the defrost heater. If none then check deforst timer for power in. If present then change defrost timer. That is where power comes from to the heater. If power then bad heater.

Thermostat controls the compressor. When the temp inside goes up the thermostat turns on the compressor to cool the fridge or freezer. Here's the diagram. It looks like if the thermostat is "open", the heater won't run...

SOURCE: Amana ARB9058CSO defrost system isn't working.

that's a calrod heater, they hardly ever go bad but it could be bad,try this,it's a good idea to change out the thermostat to while you're in there so do this, shut down the freezer control or unplug the machine, cut the two wires going to the thermostat located on top of the evap coil, wire the two wires together bypassing the thermostat, plug it in and put it in defrost,if the heater gets hot then you know the t-stat was bad and the heater is good,if it's in defrost and the heater doesn't get hot change out the heater and the t-stat and you shouldn't have to worry about either one of them going bad a gain.,also you can look at the t-stat,if it has clear plastic cap on top and it looks popped up on one side,it's bad,you can tell just by looking at the t-stat.hope this helps, when you cut the wires off of the t-stat cut them as close as you can to it so you can connect the new t-stat to the wires, when you get the new one the wire connectors come with the thermostat

I have an Amana A4TXNWFWW01 and at the top part of the fridge there is two vents. These vent freeze over and the fridge quits working. Does anyone know what is going on?

The defrost heater has a defrost limit thermostat ( a small disc with two wires) that is attached to the cooling coil. This defrost limit thermostat is a switch that will open when the coil is warm enough after defrost. If the defrost heater is staying on too long it can create steam which will condense and freeze on the vents after defrost period terminates.

Amana ssd21sw stop cooling freezer side frost in rear wall any sugestions

Defrost cycling problem which will affect cooling the fridge compartment by struck the freezer fan's function. To solve defrost problem:
First, locate the defrost timer which may hidden behindcorners of the fridge at the back bottom, in some models located in the ceilingof the fresh food section or behind the cold control cover. Once you locate thedefrost timer, slowly turn the screw in the middle of the defrost timer withstraight screwdriver until the fridge shuts off. Now it's in defrost. If thedefrost heater(s) starts, replace the defrost timer and defrost thermostat. Ifthe heater(s) does not start, unplug wire cord to check ohm test for continuityof heater. If continuity is there, plug cord wire which gives power 120volts(check specification) to heater. If heater no starts, bypass defrost thermostatby join the 2 wires in the defrost thermostat. If the heater now comes on,replace the defrost timer and defrost thermostat. If the heater itself is bad, replace it. Thanks and hope helpful.

Freezer is cold, but cold air is not circulating in refrigerator

Check freezer fan is working. If ice formed over freezer fan by working. It's a common problem due to irregular defrosting. Keep freezer setting temp at 5 degree. And check defrost timer, thermostat, heater are working properly.
Turn timer with small tip screw driver to shut off fridge. If not shut off, replace timer. Turn counter clockwise defrost thermostat. If fridge not shuts off replace defrost thermostat.Check heater by join the 2 wires in the defrost thermostat. And after 1 minute, unplug power and keep your arm on heater. If it's warm heater is o.k. Otherwise, replace heater.
Once heater starts work at regular interval controlled by thermostat and timer, defrost will be good and effective cooling will also be in fridge compartment.

Top half of both fridge and freezer appears to have stopped working.

Your defrost heater or defrost thermostat may be bad. Test defrost heating element for continuity. If heater is good, replace the defrost thermostat. In most cases, replacing both is advisable.

Hi there i have a client with an amana frigde sxd524ve fault is very ic ed up evap unit no fan running i defrosted unit and resarted system fan now running i believe defrost element and or timer may be...

Okay, rookie ;)
Amana fridges have problem with the defrost thermostat, which you may not notice without looking at the thermostat very closely. If the plastic cover on the thermostat is swollen or is higher on one side - replace the thermostat. Fan in these fridges is connected in series with the heater and the defrost thermostat.
... And finally 127 Ohms for a 110v heating element is too high, resistance must be lower. If you measure it through the defrost thermostat - separate them and check again.

Yes if the heater and defrost thermostat are good then the problem is the control board.

Bottom freezer icing up

there is an issue with your defrost. either your bi-metal thermostat, your defrost heater or your defrost timer/control are bad. you can check the thermostat and the defrost heater with an ohm meter on tone. they are both located behind the back panel in the freezer. ( Note: do not thaw freezer until thermostat has been checked, otherwise it will test bad due to warm temp ). if both thermostat and heater have tone, then the defrost timer/control is bad. Joe

Amana side by freezer fan frozen will not run

Fan not operating could be caused by the excess frost buildup in the freezer coil. Defrost problems are related to a failure of the timer, heater, or defrost thermostat. Locate the timer and rotate the clutch head screw clockwise until you hear one audible click. That puts the system into defrost mode. If the system restarts after 18-22 minutes your problem is in the heater circuit. Heater and defrost thermostat is located behind the back wall of the freezer section.
