Sometimes the disposal rotor is jammed by a piece of chicken bone for example. You can use the supplied hex key to stick into a hole at the bottom and jiggle the rotor free.

I have a kitchenaid superba disposal and sometimes it won't turn off. I have to throw the circuit breaker. Is there a switch on the disposal that will turn it off?

The motor is shorted, replace disposal.

Our 1HP Kitchenaid batch disposal does not turn off when the metal plug is removed. It runs for several minutes on it's own.
