SOURCE: My Ryobi PLT 2543 strimmer will run, but cuts out

I had this problem twice in the past. I solved it the first time by replacingthe plug and setting the plug gap with a feeler guage. The next time it was a decoke of the cylinder (squirting through the plug hole) replacing the plug and leaving it overnight and then cleaning the air filter. It runs like a dream and has worked in Australia, Europe and the UK with no further problems. Also the fule mix has to be just right, I actually use 22:1 instead of 25:1 and do not use any petrol / gas with additives in (like Shell).

SOURCE: I want to access the pull cord

This appears to be a model only sold in the UK but it looks like the standard, Ryobi,Homelite,Toro, trimmers we have in the states. You have to remove the 4 screws that hold the motor to the shaft to access the recoil starter. Once apart it will become evident how to remove the starter parts. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: need service manual for ryobi

Here is a PDF file of an owners manual the closest I could find to your listed model. You will need Adobe Reader installed on your computer to view this. It is a free and safe download from Adobe.com.

SOURCE: ryobi plt 3043yw, wont start.

Hey www_mike350,

Just fixed my Ryobi 3043YW. I got this given to me not working and didnt even need it. I already have one. I decided to have a look over it, see if I could get it going.

To my surprise everything looked clean. I checked for spark, that was good, compression seemed good. I took the spark plug out and tipped some fuel in the cylinder, put the plug back in and tried to start it.

If it started I would have suspected the carby, but it still didnt start.

I was really annoyed because everything looked clean but it still wouldnt start. There was fuel, spark and compression, I didnt know what else could make this thing not start.

I pulled it completely apart and found the rotor assembly was the problem. It was causing a timing issue, meaning that it was sparking at the wrong times, when there was no gas in the cylinder.

On the inside of the rotor is a pin or a key that lines up on the shaft and gives the spark its timing. That key was made of cast iron and had broken off, causing the rotor to spin on the shaft out of alignment. This through the timing out.

I lined it up and tightened it and its working again. I couldnt believe it when it started, I have spent hours on this thing.

I will have to try and replace the rotor (Part no. 300952001), otherwise it will slip on the shaft again sooner or later and do the same thing.

Unfortunately I need to replace the gaskets too now as most came apart when I was pulling it apart.

Hope that helps someone out there!

Havee ryobi 4 cycle weed eater. Leaking oil. Appears to coming oit carb. Carb filter and area around it soaked with oil. What would cause that and can i fix it.

Are you sure it is a 4 cycle as I am unable to find any that are. They all appear to be 2 cycle. If it is a 2 cycle, one issue that will cause the problem you describe is if the exhaust is blocked as this will cause fuel to spit out the carb. Have a look at the exhaust and see if you have got a wasp nest or something similar partially blocking it.

Ryobi plt-2543y engine runs okay but head will not

Ken it sounds like the shaft isn't going in to the spigot on the engine. Make sure that the head is on properly and that the shaft is in the spigot itself. If there has been any movement with the head creeping down slightly the shaft will no longer go into it. Try and straighten the shaft slightly to give a couple of millimeters more to the shaft.

What is the 2 stroke petrol mix for a garden strimmer, Ryobi 25cc PLT 2543 please?

hi there keithprobert

the ratio to use if using top quality 2 stroke oil is 50:1 that is 20 mills of 2 stroke oil per 1.0 litre of petrol that you mix.

but if not using top quality 2 stroke oil use ratio 25:1 that is 40 mills of 2stroke oil per 1.0 litre of petrol that you mix.
