Zenith TV unlock [Child lock]
Tune the television to a channel blocked by a child lock. The words "Enter Lock Code" will appear on the screen with four dashes underneath
Press the numbers on the remote control to enter the child lock pass code to unlock your Zenith television. When the code is entered correctly, the blocked channel becomes visible. The words "Enter Lock Code" remain on the screen if the password is not correct

Enter "0000" if you did not change the password on the television prior to enabling the child lock feature. This number is the default pass code for the child lock.
Push "7777" if you changed the pass code for the television but no longer remember the code. This number allows you to bypass the child lock and watch the programming.
Key lock
Press the "Menu" button on the remote control to access the "Main Menu" screen on the television.
Scroll to "Special" using the up or down arrow buttons and press the right arrow button to access the "Special" sub-menu.
Push the up or down arrow button to highlight "Key Lock" and then press the right arrow button.
Press the up or down arrow button to change "Key Lock" to "No" and then press the "Menu" button to save the setting.

There are two types Zenith TVs. One type will have "Menu" button on its front panel and other will not. If your Zenith is the first type, you can programme it without a remote control. If it is the second type, you must have a remote control hanset to programme it.
Programming method
First connect the TVs antenna socket at its back with external antenna or cable.

* With the remote control in hand, press the POWER key to
turn on the Presentation TV.
** Press MENU repeatedly until the Setup menu appears.

*** Using the Up/Down arrow on the remote control, highlight
Auto Program on the screen

**** Press the Right or Left arrow to go to the Auto Program
menu.

***** Using the Up/Down arrow, choose either Cable TV or Off-
Air Antenna on the screen.
****** Press the Right or Left arrow to begin the Channel Search.
******* Press ENTER when the channel search is done.

Note: Auto Program finds channels being received by the TV
tuner
Cable will not work unless you subscribe to a cable service
OK.

Please follow the instuctions below to reset the password and switch off the parental control on the Zenith DBV412.

1. Switch on the TV and DVD player
2. Switch the TV to the input for the DVD player
3. Remove any disc from the player
4. Press the SETUP key on the Zenith remote to open the on-screen menu
5. Press 2 1 0 4 9 9 using the numerical keys on the Zenith remote.
6. Press SETUP again to close the menu

This will clear any password that has been set. Now you need to switch off the parental control:

8. Press the SETUP key to open the on-screen menu again
9. Use the down arrow to highlight the PADLOCK for the parental control settings
10. Press the RIGHT arrow once to enter the parental control menu
11. Highlight RATING and press the RIGHT arrow once.

You will be asked to set a password. Enter something simple and easy to remember, e.g. 0000 then press ENTER. You will need to confirm the password by entering the same number again, then press enter again.

12. Use the UP/DOWN arrows to highlight UNLOCK then press ENTER
13. Press SETUP again to close the menu

You should now be able to insert your Across the Universe disc and play it. If you are still unable to watch the disc or you are unable to switch off the parental control feature, please let me know.

To enable close cationing on your TV follow this:-

[1] Press "Menu" button on the remote control to appear "Setup" menu on the screen.
[2] Use "Up and Down" arrows on the remote contol to select "Captions/Text" on your screen.
[3] Press "Right or Left " arrows to select any one of the following options. Caption-1, Caption-2, Caption-3, Caption-4 Text-1, Text-2, Text-3, Text-4.
[4] Press enter to return TV viewing.

To turn the caption feature to "On" or "Off'

[1] Press menu key on the remote control to display "Setup" menu.
[2] Using "UP/DOWN" buttons to select captions on your screen.
[3] Press "Right or Left" arrow to switch the captions feature 'ON" or "OFF" or "EZ Mute"
[4] Press enter to continue.
Ok.

The SETUP button on the case accesses the menu.
Press Channel +   to select Language.
Press Volume -    - now the tv will be reset to factory condition.
Press Channel + to start the AUTO PROGRAM and wait for it to finish.
Press Channel -  to exit it.
That is all. If you need more then all the menu options can be accessed thru the key on the tv.

Get the remote control and press the MENU key repeatedly until you see the Video menu at the bottom of the list of options you will see EZ Picture.
Use the up/down arrow keys to select EZ Picture and use the left/right arrow keys to select your preference. Set the preference to Preset not custom.
Press Enter, Quit or Menu to exit. See if resetting the TV's Picture settings resolves the problem.

If you have a bar at the top of the screen as well then it could be in letterbox viewing mode. Again just go into the Video menu and turn it off.

There are Horizontal and Vertical size controls behind the back cover that need to be adjusted using a hand held tool. This adjustment requires a trained tech. High Voltage from the set is dangerous.
However, there maybe some limited controls that may help through the on screen menu.
To get into the setup menu, you need the original Remote that came with the TV.
Hold the Menu Key down until a box appears in the corner of the screen, then press 9,8,7,6 Enter. this takes you to the service menu. Just scroll through the items to find Horiz Size and Vert Size.

Hi! the blue menu screen can be turned off by pressing the same button that caused it to appear. In most cases pressing the "Menu" button on the remote or TV-control will make the blue menu screen disappear..

If you have a remote that can access menu and your remote has number buttons and an enter key, you can follow this instructions to go to installer menu. Note that the installer menu is slightly different for each model, eg. some options are not available.

I was able to go to installer menu using two universal remotes. The remotes that I used were Dish Network 3.0IR and RCA RCU300WBL. Both remotes programmed for Zenith H2531DT TV. The reason why I had to use two remotes is that Dish Network remote was only able to access menu. It did not have ENTER key but RCA remote had ENTER key but I wasn't able to go to menu with that.

To go to installer menu (different from regular menu):

- Hold MENU for 8 seconds.
- Press 9, 8, 7, 6 and ENTER in the sequence.
You should be in the installer menu now. There should be a line that looks something like this:

Use SELECT button to scroll through each option, and ADJ button to adjust the values for each option. For example, to enable the front panel buttons on your tv, set KEY DEFEAT to 0. Other options that you might want to check:

CHAN LOCK which locks your TV to a single channel and wont let you change (set 0 to turn off)
START CH/VOL will set your tv to a specified channel when you turn on tv. (set 255 to disable)


You will have to look in the menu for some of the options because they are different for different TV series. A good place to find manual is on www.zenith.com or http://safemanuals.com/

I work in an old hotel and it took me few hours to figure out how to disable start channel lock. It drove me nuts. I hope someone finds this useful.
