Need to know how to connect up my KT3 Ultra MS-6380E motherboard. I have connected power cables according to board diagram, but nothing happens when turn power on. I have attached PSU cable bunch to socket on board, but seem to be having problems getting the LED / power SW / etc cables to connect to right pins.
I downloaded the PDF Motherboard Manual for the MSI MS-6380E Version 1.0, just now.
Let's take a look at that JFP1 header.
This view is looking at the JFP1 header, sitting at the bottom right of the motherboard, TO THE LEFT of the JFP2 header. The JFP2 header is at the very bottom right hand corner. The JFP1 header is just to the left of it. The processor is to the Top/Middle.
Looking at the pins going across the top of the JFP1 header, they are as follows,
2, 4, 6, 8, and there is no 10. There is no pin for 10.
Looking at the pins going across the bottom, they are as follows,
1, 3, 5, 7, and 9.
Pins 6 & 8 are for the Power On switch.
Pins 2 & 4 are for the Power On light, (LED light)
Pins 1 & 3 are for the HarDDrive activity light.
Pins 5 & 7 are used for a Reset switch. (IF, you have one)

When you do a small window will come up. Click on the empty circle to the left of -> Save.
This file will be saved either directly to your deswktop screen, or your My Documents folder. I don't know how you have your downloads set up to be saved. I save them to my My Documents folder.
Once you see this file, double-click on it. It's a WinRar file. There will be a Microsoft 'Squawk Box' that comes up. "Warning this publisher could not be verified, ya-da, ya-da"
Ignore it! Click on -> Run
Now the WinRAR extraction archive will come up.
Click on Run.
Now go to the PDF file and double-click on it.
There's your Motherboard Manual.
Yes, the re-installation of Windows corrupted the audio drivers. When you install the new sound card, it has it's own drivers, on the CD that comes with it. You're absolutely correct.
Carefully split the HDD activity lamp (LED) connector into individual connectors, or wires. Whichever way works.
Each wire has a female metal terminal.
Also each of those metal terminals is square shaped. On one of the flat sides, there is a 'tang' that sticks out. It's formed out of the metal terminal itself. Sort of resembles this ->

You slide a needle, down the inside of the plastic socket, to one side. You are trying to depress that tang, so that you can pull the wire and terminal end out of the socket. In my crude illustration above, the wire would come in from the top. The tang would be to the left side. If the wire were pulled up, the tang sticking out sticks into the side of the socket. The needle presses the tang flat, so it can't prevent the wire from coming out.
One other thing I should mention that may make a difference on that HDD light. It's a DC lamp. (light)
It has an Anode and a Cathode. A Positive and a Negative.
Turn the connector around, and see if it lights when the harddrive is active. Active means there is something that the harddrive is being used for, not just sitting there spinning.
It could be that the connector is reversed, and not bright enough for you to see it. Turning it to the proper position, may make it brighter.
On that System LED. (Power On light?) The JFP2 header is in the bottom right corner. At the bottom of this connector are Pins 1, 3, 5, and 7.
Try connecting that Power On lamp connector to Pins 1, 3, and 5.

OK, I got power :)
The HDD led does not light (I can live with that)
The system LED connector was 3 pin wide with connections to 1st and 3rd pin so did not fit 2 pin motherboard (I can live with that)
OnBoard AC97 sound not working (PCI soundcard should hopefully fix this)
Had to format drive and re-install windows to get windows to work - it kept rebooting even in safe mode (OK, my windows does a hard drive format as part of the installation process)
Overall though, its getting there :)
