The generator starts for it's weekly timed maintenance, it starts and runs for about 40 seconds, then stops. Thenit starts again and runs for 30 seconds, and stops, then 20 seconds, etc etc, until it does this for about 5 starting attempts, when it finally stops, and will not stry to start anymore. If I stand by and wait a few minutes, and start it manually, it will start and stay runninn sometimes after a couple of attempts.
The same routine happens if the power goes off, and the generaotr is asked to come on line.
Fuel problem, the float in the carborator is stuck, if you tap on the carborator bowl it will probably get freed up.if not take the bowl off and spray the insides with carb. cleaner.

Turns out it was the Manual-off-Auto switch that was bad. My DVM showed a voltage drop across the switch. The controller wasn't getting enough power.
One good thing about it was it forced me to really study the schematics to understand how everything worked. I'm now in the process of designing my own esp32 based controller, with wifi connectivity, to replace the stock control board.
Judy, Generac portable generator oil recommendations. Above 40°F, use SAE 30. Below 40°F and down to 10°F, use 10W-30. Below 10°F, use synthetic 5W-30. Oil should be changed after the first 8 hours of operation and every 200 hours of run time thereafter.

I has this problem after performing Schedule A maintenance. Called Generac. They advise this a trip caused by removing the fuse before work to prevent engine start up, The fix is to turn unit in off position and then press ENTER key.
I have a generator that did the same thing. It would start and then stop within a few seconds. The more expensive generators have an oil level safety switch to prevent the engine from burning up. There is usually a wire connecting to the switch on the outside of the engine near the oil fill hole. Remove this wire and try to start the generator. If it runs without a problem then it is the switch. You need to remove the switch and take it apart carefully and clean it. There is a small float inside the assembly. When the oil runs low the float allows the switch to short to ground which kills the spark to the spark plug. Hope that helps.
It sounds like you are not producing any voltage. When you start your generator have a volt meter on the generator breaker to see if there is voltage present when the genset is running. Also, check you oil pressure switch, which is near the oil filter.
