To avoid personal injury or even death, always disconnect your
appliance from its power source--that is, unplug it or break the
connection at the circuit breaker or fuse box--before you do any
troubleshooting or repair work on your appliance. Also, because some
components may have sharp edges, use caution while working on your
appliance.
As a start, try cleaning the coils and fan under the refrigerator.
You would not believe how many refrigerators and freezers I've worked on which required nothing but a good coil cleaning. The dirtier these coils get, the less efficient the unit becomes until it reaches a point that it almost appears as if the refrigerant unit is not working at all when all it really needs is a good cleaning.
While you're under there, be sure the fan is running to pull air over the coils to cool and condense the freon inside them.
HI, That area being hot is a sign the refigerator is not cooling properly. We need to pin point the cooling problem. First, are you noticing any frost build up inside the rear freezer panel? Are the fans and the compressor running? Please let me know so I can assist you through this.
Sounds like a defrost system failure. This could be the freezer fan, heater, timer. You need an OHM meter.
You can manually defrost the freezer with a hair dryer that will get it working for a couple of days. Remember there is a lot of ice behind the freezer back wall, you can only see the tip of the iceburg.
your controls are inside the refrigerator section.the one on the left is for temperature and the right one is for freezer air control. both should be set at the mid point to get average temps in both sections. if you dont have proper temps, then check to see if your coils under the unit are clean and lint free. if you clean the coils and still dont have good cooling, then you may have a seperated heat exchanger. it happens alot on this model and it will cause the unit to be almost cold enough but ice cream and fruit type drinks wont freeze solid. the heat exchanger is expensive to repair, 400-500 bucks and it might be time to look for a new unit.
