I have 110V to the transformer but the display is blank. I don't know what the output voltage is supossed to be, and I don't see any fuses or damaged circuitry.
Ok guys. Just got mine XP50 fixed with the "No Display" problem. The LCD screen was blank without text and only shown orange color. The problem is one of the capacitors on the main board was dead. I have replaced all 3 caps on the main board and the problem is solved and if you are a little handy on soldering, you can do it yourself. The 3 caps you should replace are:
- C901 (I used 16V 330MicroF)
- C65 (I used 5V 4.7 MicroF)
- C 902 (I used 16V 330 MicroF)
In my case just changing the CR2032 buffer battery did the job. After switching on after that the display was still hardly readable, so I went through the reset-procedure as described in the Roland XP-50 TurboStart sheet (or the manual). After that everything worked fine again.
Here is the procedure in case you don't have it:
1.) Press UTILITY
2.) Press 4: SOUND on he 10-key pad
3.) Press 5: PRESET
4.) Press ENTER
5.) If Memory Protect is on, press DEC, then ENTER twice
That's it - good luck,
Matthias

Turns out this is a design fault with the XP-50 model. My techie says he sees it all the time in this model. The XP-60s and XP-80s are designed differently, he says, and never suffer from this fault. His tip: if you have a unit in working condition, have the capacitors replaced. So, unless you can find a new (i.e.unused) mother board, a second-hand replacement is perhaps just a temporary fix. I've sourced a working second-hand unit and my techie is going to do the modifications required to ensure the "lights out" fault doesn't hit me again. Grim news, but that seems to be the case, and that so many of us have listed the exact same fault, seems to confirm it.
I have the same problem but in additioni have a strong noise in the left channel which stops after 4 or 5 minutes...
i found another solution for the no screen problem..!
Just remove the wire that is on pin # 3 of CN14 and solder this wire to the ground of PCB mainboard!
This will lock the screen contrast to a standard level and you cant change it even from the menu...
Hope this helps..!
This is the solution for my XP50! Thank you for that hint! Unfortunately i've change all the capacitors and the CR2032 before trying this... but only your hint (removing pin #3 from CN14 and connect to pcb mainboard ground) does it... i'm happy, my XP50 is alive! :)

Plug it in!
Just encountered the blank display problem on my XP50.
Changed the CR2032 buffer battery and went through the initialization procedure as decribed on the Roland TurboStart-sheet. http://cms.rolandus.com/assets/media/pdf/XP50ts.pdf
After that everything worked fine again.
Hope this helps!

My tech here (in Hong Kong) reports mine cannot be repaired as it's a motherboard problem and these are now out of stock. I'm heartbroken.
I can't believe we all have had the problem all at the same time!!! My screen just stopped working. It still glows orange, but there is no black writing. I have a Roland XP 50. The lights on some of the buttons work intermittently. I am wondering if there is dust on the mother board or something? I wondered if it was a screen contrast setting because my child was playing with it moments before it happened. Any solutions? [email protected]
Same problem with my XP-50.
I'm searching for a pdf free service manual for it.
Also searching for an used mainboard for it because the problem is there.
best regards.
