Couple things to try (I always try the simplest fixes first):

  • Try changing the input on the VCR
  • Double-check connections to make sure secure and in right spots
  • Hook the DVD player straight to TV and see if it works that way (Some copy protected DVDs don't like being run through recording devices.)
  • Reset dvd player - maybe a setting got changed (Output set to DVI for example)
Hopefully one of those will fix, if not, comment back and we'll dig deeper.

Hi,
VCR video signal wont come out from Component Video Out of combo unit, it is low resolution signal so you need to hook yellow-red-white video cable in tv for VCR output.
Make sure to select VCR as source in combo while playback of VHS tape and select DVD as source when playing dvd disc in combo.
Hope these info will help you.
Let me know if you have additional question.
Thanks.

Can't get video on vhs sound but no picture, is it broken

I had the same problem, so I took it back to basics. Hooked cable into VCR/DVD player and another cable from player to TV. S cable too, plus red/white audio. Plays DVDs on AV1 and VHS on Channel 3 on TV setting.

Adding vcr & rec to a '93

Hello,
Please hook up VCR with TV through RF cable and check picture of VCR playback in TV.

Now you can hook DVD player video-audio out in VCR input and can have dvd playback picture in TV via VCR modulator.

If you want to listen sound via receiver then hook audio red-white cable between VCR audio out and receiver audio in terminals.

Let me know exact model numbers of units to help you out more.
Thank you.

Can't get picture on TV.

If you were using RCA cables, you may have had them hooked up wrong. I know this may sound like an easy fix, but I still hook them up wrong from time to time. Especially if there are more than one set of RCA hook-ups on the back of the unit. If you were using a S-video cable you shouldn't have to use RCA cables, if you had both hooked up that could cause your DVD/VCR unit to not work properly and only get a partial feed to the TV. I hope this helps a little. Good luck.

Tvs usualy have a few ways to hook them up. One is a coax cable this is the silver one in the back that you screw in a cable. The second are RCA cables these are the ones that are yellow, red and white. Yellow is always the video and white and red are for audio. If your using the coax cable your tv needs to be on channel 3 or 4 you may have to force the tv to go to that channel by pushing 03 on the remote. If you are using the Rca cables then you need to change the tv to "video 1" or "video 2" this changes the tv from tunner mode to aux input mode. Most DVD players dont have a coax out so you have to use the rca plugs. Some tvs have the rca plugs on the front (video 2) and the back (video 1) or line in. Some tvs have line out also so you need to figure out wich way you have it hooked up. Do a search for the model of your tv and it should show a diagram on how to hook it up.
