I recently had polyurethane coating my hardwood floors and now my fridge has a strong chemical smell. the smell is permeating food and beverages. what should i do to eliminate the odor and am i at risk from whatever is causing the smell
The smells are being pulled in through the air intake from the fridge from the chemicals they used on the floor. As the coating cures, the odor will end. As for the damage to your food and drinks? I would assume if the food tastes like the chemicals, I would avoid eatting them if you do not like the taste )
SOURCE: chemical odor...
try putting crumpled newspaper in it daily to get rid of the smell, the coolant if leaking should not cause any horrible smell, Freon they use today has very little smell to it. Frost free units have
heaters and fans in them to keep them frost free. It could be that a
fan quit and the heater overheated something around it."
Let me know if this helps, good luck
SOURCE: Pervasive chemical odor
I was just recently having this problem myself (and I'd also encountered it long ago as well). Fortunately, I live in an apt. for the time being, so it was exchanged with another fridge after persistent complaints to the management. However, I did do a little sleuthing before the exchange ... and I did read something online where someone said (and pretty definitively too) that oftentimes "chemical smells" occur as a result of a coolant leak. Despite the fact that I did not physically see a leak, this explanation still made the most sense to me given the character of the smell.
So, your problem, like mine, is more than likely caused by an internal, occult leak. Also, not to worry you, but I would advise you not to consume anything else from your fridge/freezer until this is resolved since your food is being constantly permeated with this noxious gas circulating around it (and yes, even through the containers' small crevices). I ended up pretty much throwing out everything :( I am an RN, BSN by the way - we nurses usually have some pretty sound advice (even when it's bad - sorry).
Cork flooring has many advantages. Cork flooring is comfortable and easy to walk on, the cellular structure of cork makes the floor very durable which can absorb sounds and blows making the cork floor a great pick for apartments and condominiums.
The main advantages of bamboo flooring are its durability, and the fact that it is sourced from a renewable resource. Moreover, bamboo flooring is much more resistant to expansions than solid wood and is also insect resistant.
