Telstra is an Australian telecommunications company that
offers email and Webmail services through its BigPond brand.
Webmail is a convenient way of accessing email from anywhere
in the world over the Internet. You can access your Webmail account on any computer.
Telstra has experienced some issues with its BigPond email
service that also has impacted its Webmail users.
Users have lost access to their email accounts and have been
shut out of them.
Telstra Webmail users experienced some of these issues in September
2010.
Email Delays
Users of BigPond experienced delays in receiving and
sending email during a few days of service disruption in September 2010.
Telstra told customers that the emails were being held on
their server and would be distributed once the service was restored. According
to Telstra, the problem impacted BigPond users across Australia.
Locked Accounts
During the service disruption, Telstra also locked out
some BigPond users from their accounts. These users were not able to log in to
their accounts.
According to the telecommunications company, they had to
lock the email accounts in order to facilitate repair work.
Telstra Response
Telstra reacted to consumer concerns about these issues by
providing regular updates about the status of the repairs.
One such Telstra status update, according to an iTnews
report, said, "We are currently having problems with BigPond mail.
This is affecting customers nationally.
Customers may experience delays in receiving mail or
accessing their accounts.
Technicians are treating this issue as a priority and are
working on the problem."
Telstra stated that these problems came about as a result of
a server outage.
According to user comments at TechWorld and iTnews, some
users still did not see their problems resolved even after the company
officially declared that it had taken care of the issue.
