Question about Toro Lawn Mower With Toro Power Tools

Starts runs min. or two then stops....

Replaced fuel line & filter...(opened up old filter found deteriorated rubber from fuel line) removed carb and went thru 4 times and does same thing...starts fine 1-2 pulls runs great but dies if i try to use it or let run for a min.???? great engine never had problem before always taken care of....spark plug looks week/ never replaced yet...also cleaned magneto and flywheel......dont know gap for that or spark plug....Mike

    Ended up being the plug....would run for 20-40 sec. then die....replaced with plug from tiller ran like a charm once again....then replaced with correct heat range plug..ngk...bpr6es...should get another 4-5 yrs out of her....

    will not start. Replaced spark plug. Sanded the magneto and coil. Put gas in plug. It ran for a few seconds then stopped. Replaced inline gas filter. Noticed no gas being sucked to pump.

Go to toro.com then click customer care, then click manuals and parts. Type in model no. and download the owners manual. This should get you the spark and flywheel gap. Probably still something in the carb. Some orifices are very hard to find and to clean but they must be clean. Also check for dirt dopper nest in the muffler.

Take off the air filter cover; on toro, a little red air tube (like on WD-40 can) may be clogged. I shot compressed air in it. That fixed it!

    Also, old (more than 30 days) gas can be troublesome. Fuel stabilizer (sold at hardware stores) may cure it.

    Also, if you have the Kohler engine made in China (distained by my local mower repair guy) you may need to learn to clean the carburator. Don't faint yet. There are some good videos on YouTube. Just pay attention to linkage and don't over-tighten the bottom bolt. (Take smart phone photos to keep track of yourself, if necessary.) Good Luck!

    Here's a good one:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8h2O4QsU... Other spellings: carburetor (American and Canadian spelling), carburator, carburettor, or carburetter. You may find circular "spacers" as "left over parts" if you're not careful slowly removing covers so pay attention to everything.

No fuel to carb
Remove the gas line feeding the carb and try crank it to see if gas is there. If not make sure the tank vent is clear, and that the fuel line is not clogged. Over time the rubber line will deteriorate on the inside and small bits of rubber can clog it, as well as the carb. Its always best to replace the fuel hose whenever you replace or rebuild the carb.

I've got a piaggio zip 4t . It runs pefect for a bout 2 miles then cuts out when I open throttle. New coil new plug. New carb. Cleaned filters. Cleaned exhaused but still does it.
sounds like your fuel pump is faulty or the fuel line from the pump to the carb is deteriorated and breaking up and letting small particles of plastic or rubber go through and block the carb float needle.Remove carb and clean it out then replace fuel line.

hello sir, my machine will only start when pumping primmer bulb or squirting fluid in the carburetor than stops. the fuel line has broken off, in most small carburetors this is a ongoing problem.old fuel will crystallize when left in tank for a long time.plugging up ports, fuel lines, small screen in carburetor.fuel lines will dissolve clogging carb.this is why it will run when the choke is on creating a vacuum to where there is fuel forced in the carb to rum,also the gas will evaporate leaving the oil behind clogging up carb.the thing to do is remove carb. and clean out,replacing gaskets or fuel line if necessary.use carb cleaner to clean out carb.make sure to make note where fuel line go.the fuel filter broke off of fuel line letting debris get in carb plugging it up.the muffler is known to clog up a lot on these machines where they want run. the compression should be 60 to 120 lbs any thing below 60 is junk. when adjusting the carb screws turn in all the way than turnout 1 1/4 turns turn in slow until machine runs also you need to check for spark by removing plug and grounding against engine to check spark, ok.a new spark plug would be a good ideal too , if you are going to make these repairs use new fuel line and filter,hope this helps,any comments welcome,thank you, ~~

Husqvarna_blower 125b have adjusted carb but after ten mins shuts off. After a few mins will start up again.
The carburetor or fuel line are the usual culprits. This can be fixed by pouring the fuel into a container to inspect for debris. The fuel line should be drained and blown to cleared completely. Fuel left in an engine can sour and gunk up the inner working. Make sure your using a stabilizer in the mix before storing during winter. Happy Gardening,Coach Dave

Test for spark. Make sure the air filter is clean. Then make sure fuel is getting from the gas tank to the carb. Old rubber fuel line deteriorate and stop up small ports and parts in the carb. An inline fuel filter is a good idea on these larger engines. Sometimes, a larger B & S engine needs the OH valves adjusted to start easily and run properly. If after attempting to start, does the new plug get wet or even smell like gas? You should always use gas LESS than 30 day old. Gas goes stale like bread and milk. You can remove the fuel line from the fuel tank at the carb to drain old gas. You can also remove the carburetor bowl to check for water and sediment (which need to be cleaned out). Check these things and post back.

First, the primer/purge bulb does NOT have to fill completely to function. It's purpose is to remove old fue and AIR from the fuel system (carb) and move it back into the fuel tank. You normally will have an air pocket in the bulb. An air leak in the fuel system or loose carburetor screws or fuel lines in the wrong location can cause your problem. Check the fuel line and fuel filter for a good connection in the fuel tank. Remove the fuel pump cover on the carb and make sure the very small, round, wire mesh filter is not clogged with debris. When old fuel lines deteriorate, they crumble and if the filter is broken off, the fuel line to the carb will ingest bits and pieces of old fuel line. Check all these things and post back.Sometimes, if the bulb is on the carb, a check valve in the carb can stick. When you check the condition of the mesh filter inside the carb (opposite the side with the vent hole), then liberally spray with WD 40. Strong solvents and cleaners can SWELL up the tiny check valves in the carb, causing problems. So you see, it is hard to pinpoint exactly what happened without some removal of parts and diagnosis.

A relative has a weed eater featherlite 20c and thr primer bulb doesnt keep gas in it,is it supposed to?and if so what is the cause?And it want stay running unless u keep it running wide open.Why is that?
The machine is having a fuel delivery issue The purge/primer bulb PULLS fuel from the fuel tank, thru the carb and then to itself it pull any air/old fuel in the carb...and the PUSHES this mixture back to the fuel tank. There are check valves in carbs that have the bulb on them..Deteriorated fuel lines clog a screen in the carb and the ethanol in the gas works to deteriorate the fuel pump and metering diaghram in these carbs...You have to start at the tank with the fuel filter and go from there.
I'd say from the running symptons that a diaghram kit is needed for the carb...they are cheap and easily installed.

Motor runs for 5-10 min. then starts missing and quits.
Check your spark first,if you do not have spark your problem is the coils-if you do have spark the problem probaly lies withone of your valves getting stuck after getting hot and soonas it cools down a little it closes and then you can restart it till it gets hot again.Hope this helps

1985 Toyota pickup 22r non cali emissions ( Drives then dies no fuel in carb)
I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the rubber fuel lines being old and cracked. The hoses would warm up and fuel would squirt out of the cracks. I had to replace three fuel line hoses and it has been running great ever since. Good luck.

Toro z222 won't stay running without a prime. I bought it used and got no manual. Not sure if it's fuel injected or carbureted. It hasn't been sitting for an extended period of time, this I know. I got it in pieces, the deck and pulleys are all un assembled. I'll have to figure that one out later, just trying to get it running and moving but it won't start now without spraying gas straight into the intake, It tries but no luck.
