I've tried several remotes and I know the original one is working as I can see the IR light in a video camera but the TV will not respond.
If the remote is working but the TV will not respond, it means that the little IR receiver in the TV has stopped working. This is most likely because the receiver has burned out, but it could also have come loose. This is a very easy thing to correct, but the set should be serviced by a qualified tech.
In my case my remote intermittantly stops responding. I unplug the tv, wait a bit and plug it back in again. That seems to take care of it.
Both the IRD (the sensor) and the associated IR controller circuit should be serviced by a workshop - this is not a task for the everyday consumer to tackle in the home.
