John Deere 430 lawn tractor hydrostatic transmission will not work in forward or reverse even with no weight on the axle. New filter and oil did not fix. What should I check next?

Some have a procedure for "burping" air from the hydraulic system. Changing engine oil and filter won't affect it- independent system.

How many quart of oil does if take for a change ?

I think for your mower it is 48 oz. You should have a tag under the hood to the right that lists all the common replacement stuff and part numbers for them and quantities. There at the bottom of the list I think is the weight of the oil (30W) and the quantity (48 oz I think). It has been a while since I worked on one like yours though, but I think that is how they do the Husq.

While using my Craftmas 17,5 hp lawn tractor with a snowblower attachment, the hydrostatic drive seems to loose power, especially when it working hard and after its been in use for a while. I don't think...

Hello,
My name is Dane and I'm going to help you with your problem. First, I believe those craftsman units are sealed and there's no way to actually check the hydrostatic oil level. So the first thing to do is make sure that you don'thave any leaks around the transmission assembly. If it looks clean and oil free, I would venture to say that it is more of a 90% chance that your drive belt is the problem, however it isn't from icing up, but rather from the heat of the extra work from the weight of the snowblower, causing it to slip. The belt isn't all that expensive and before I would get excited and start worrying about transmission failure, I would just replace the belt first, and rule it out. Make sure all your pulleys and tensioners don't have any loose hardware, and look alligned.

I think you'll fix the problem though just by the belt replacement. I hope I've helped. Thank you! Dane

What kind of oil do I use in a Wheel Horse lawn tractor?

Your Onan engine will do excellent with Mobil One 0w40, Mobile One 5w30.

DO NOT use hydraulic oil in the transmission/transaxle, you will destroy it. Your tractor uses an Eaton 11 Hydrostatic transmission pump with the oil resevour being the cast iron transaxle. The WheelHorse transaxle is as rugged as they come. It uses a solid cast iron housing, case hardened intermediate gears and forged differential gears with an eight pinion differential.

Your transaxle requires 10w40 synthetic or conventional oil as well as a wix 51410 filter or the OEM wheelHorse filter. It should be changed every 100 hours with conventional oil or 250 hours with synthetic. DO NOT use hydraulic oil!
