No there are no points. It has an "ignition module" which is a fancy name for a magneto with integrated electronics that eliminates the need for points.

You have "spark" so likely its a fuel (carburetor) issue or has developed a crankcase leak.

If you suspect spark is not at proper time, that would be a stripped flywheel key.

Remove the muffler and inspect the piston to see if it is scored.

No need to sand it..it works on magnets rust does not effect it..but if you wish too.Remove the top cover of the engine and remove the mag..just make sure you measure the clearence with a clearence gauge before removing most are about the thickness of a business card...good luck

you can purchase the magneto at most any parts shop unless its an obsolete saw. the magneto is located on crank cooling fins under the pull start

The magneto is probably where the problem is. You'll need to pull the cover off of the motor and check the gap between the magneto and the flywheel. If the bolts holding the magneto have vibrated loose, the gap between the magneto and the flywheel will be incorrect. While you have the motor cover off, check the wiring to make sure you don't have a short in your ignition wiring and clean the air filter. I don't remember what the gap is between the flywheel and magneto, but .010 In. sounds familiar. Both legs of the magneto should be the same distance from the flywheel and they must not touch the flywheel at any point. I have used a matchbook cover between the flywheel and magneto while I tightened the magneto retention screws and it worked.

If you buy the new one first.You will see that they just snap in and out.It will say on the back of the bulb carb and tank in very small letters.Reinstall the fuel lines just as it says.You need to unbolt the pull rope side cover to get to it.Don't worry nothing will fly out at you.

they are threaded, you need a special tool that fits the inner clutch and using an impact tool you unscrew it.
